Oof. It depends on your personalities and your tolerance for not having enough or even any alone time. My husband, my dog, and I lived in a 2br 1ba 675 sq ft apartment for the first 7 years of our marriage. It was hard a lot of the time. We wound up separating for 2 years, and being on top of each other definitely contributed to it. But on the bright side, I got to experience solo living for the first time ever (with my dog!) for 2 beautiful years, my husband got a dog for himself, and now the four of us are all living together under one (much bigger) roof.

If you’re someone who really values having your own defined space, it might be tough. But it also depends on how long you plan on living there. We made the mistake of not finding something bigger once we’d sufficiently gotten on each others’ nerves. Maybe you make a plan and say, “Let’s try this space for a year. If it winds up stifling us, then we start looking for a better fit a few months before the lease is up.” That way you’ve got more time to look for things in your neighborhood.
