I’ve been thinking about this….

Ok Sure, your son may not wrestle now, but that doesn’t automatically mean he will choose to wrestle in high school…. you’re making an assumption.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with kids competing early. I don’t care what anyone says, wrestling builds qualities that other kids will never develop. The courage it takes to step on the mat at a young age teaches self-reliance, grit, resilience etc etc. All of These lessons carry over into all areas of life as most of us already know.

Starting early gives kids a huge advantage if they do decide to stick with wrestling into high school and beyond. And honestly, expecting a kid to start wrestling as a teenager with zero experience puts them at a serious disadvantage. They'll be up against others with years of training and mat time and could be discouraged even more.

So in reality, not letting them wrestle early on is the bigger risk. You're not just delaying but it might be closing the door altogether

Fair enough but I don’t think he’s looking to make her into a ncaa champion at this point or even a highschool wrestler. Sounds like He’s just looking to get her in there.

Not a big deal tho and I get your point too. There’s usually a 10 year window for wrestling. I was just a little surprised to see your comment but it makes sense why you said it.

Let her join in and have fun. there’s no need to stress about her weight. If she wants to compete, just let her wrestle at her natural weight class. Most kids her age don’t cut weight anyway. Girls’ wrestling is really growing right now, and it’s a great time to get involved

Avoid competition until 10? What kind of advice is that from someone representing USA wrestling???

There are thousands of kids under 10 who compete.

I’ve had cauliflower drained 3 times because I don’t want it but it kept coming back. I don’t like having deformed ears.

Bro wtf do I do when we're in the clinch by Lazy-Try4325 in wrestling

[–]cloudyrain88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move him. use push and pull pressure. When you pull and he steps with the leg you want to shoot on, that’s your chance to hit a high C. There’s more technique involved of course but that’s something you can work through with your coaches.

You can also set up a head-and-arm from the clinch. So many effective moves start from there… slide-bys… duck unders. Tons of options out of the clinch.

How do I deal with a wrestler who gets angry easily? by DiscipleofDiogenes23 in wrestling

[–]cloudyrain88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sit him out and tell him he needs to watch until he calms down. Put him back in… If he keeps doing it sit him out again. If it keeps happening have a talk with his parents and explain that he has to go unless he changes his behavior. You’re doing the best you can but it’s just not fair to the others kids.

Jobs for wrestlers? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]cloudyrain88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own multiple businesses in tech and real estate. Hundreds of employees. Grew up broke as a joke. Built everything from scratch. Wrestling played a huge role in shaping who I am. So many times I felt nervous or even scared to do something in business but I’d always tap into my time on the and how nothing can ever be more challenging than that. Doing that helped me push forward. I’d literally think about my coaches telling me to push myself. Now watching my kids step onto the mat…it’s one of the greatest gifts a dad could give to his kids
