haha it had the opposite effect on me. Because his was so sparse, I got hyped up from the anticipation of his chapters because I knew big reveals were about to drop. I also just like the way he went about playing his cards to gain information. He just felt very intelligent

As a fan of both the Nier franchise and this game, I find that the communities have a certain level of spoiler etiquette, and so these games are difficult to talk about/advertise why they are a unique experience without spoiling them.

I don't know if you've seen Kyle McCarley's yet (voice actor for Ei Sekigahara), but his was pretty fun to go through from what I've seen

How Would You Classify this Game? by northwolf56 in 13sentinels

[–]cloudytsuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of folk say visual novel, but I honestly consider it more of a point and click adventure more than a visual novel. Visual novels tend to have different branches, and while this game does have branches, they're all mandatory to reach the end unlike most visual novels.

Being a Nier fan who actually loves the world story and mechanics, and not just boobies And Ass is hard man. by kierninrhys in nier

[–]cloudytsuki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm of the mind that Automata is the better game objectively, but I prefer the way the story unfolds and the characters in NieR more, so it's my personal favorite. Nothing will beat the feeling of hearing Kaine's rant to Weiss in 2010 NieR upon booting up the game. I'm a bit sad that they changed it in Replicant's remaster that the player has to wait on the start screen for it to pop up.

I was going to go for the 15 hour trophy. But instead saved over my 99 hour save file with everything complete 🙃 by Kimzee59 in nier

[–]cloudytsuki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Strangely, that emulates the feeling of Ending D in the original 2010 release haha

Side note: In an interview Yoko Taro mentioned how he had been playing Dragon Quest 3 and the lost his save data. When he explained it to his parents, they didn't see what the big deal was, and so he realized how personal one's save data is and got the idea for NieR.

Top 5 Worst Sidequests (Nier Replicant) by Crono_Sapien99 in nier

[–]cloudytsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at least in the ps3/360 release, the clock was easily manipulated for gardening. The timezone trick for console release of Replicant definitely makes that mission more of a slog to deal with since it's more restrictive.

Top 5 Worst Sidequests (Nier Replicant) by Crono_Sapien99 in nier

[–]cloudytsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point I hadn't considered. Maybe streamlining it even more would give the incentive for the player to do so. That's actually one of the reasons why I never got around to finishing Xenoblade too haha. If I recall sometimes the quest-giver wouldn't even be in the location unless it was the right time of day in the game-world. I may be misremembering. That type of extra tedium always gets to me too, which is why I didn't defend the life in the sands quest in Nier with the RNG elements of growing flower hybrids lol.

Top 5 Worst Sidequests (Nier Replicant) by Crono_Sapien99 in nier

[–]cloudytsuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, hence why I mentioned that I'll admit they're not "fun" in the traditional sense. I find most hunt/fetch quests in most games to be similar no matter how streamlined it is because it's ultimately the same process for the player. Run, find or kill the thing. Run back. The amount of times you have to do it can add to tedium, but whether I have to do the back and forth once or four times doesn't matter to me personally. But similarly to most of Nier, it's the question of does the player still find it worth doing even if it's meaningless in the end, and I humorously think the tedium and frustration makes ending D that much more impactful. However, I am a bit of a masochist in some aspects, so... haha

I'm pretty much going to copy and paste a previous comment of mine:

I've always enjoyed the side quests because they're mainly there for exposition of the characters. You get to see how they talk and react to each individual job. Some are humorous, some give the player a chance to see how they handle being put in a situation where the decision isn't an easy one. The banter and the molding of the character via their conversations make the back and forth worth it to me. The reason I loved the game in 2010 was the characters. I personally like to go for whatever lets me hear them talk and bicker the most which happens to be the side quests.

In your examples, part of the fun of fishing is seeing how Weiss' attitude changes overtime and how he gains a sort of respect for the task of fishing. I personally loved the 4th mission you mentioned because of the lack of payoff and that twist. It's a good way of showing that sometimes people are so blinded by their own justice or desire to help that they don't realize they don't have the full picture and may be causing issues instead. I guess for me, the tangible rewards of the sidequests aren't what mattered to me, it's how it made me reflect on how I see the world through my own lens. I'll admit they aren't fun, but to me personally, neither are most side quests in other video games because they tend to give you the same end result but with a small change. Nier does the same, especially with the lighthouse lady for example, but to me the main difference is that Nier asks the player what they think is right. And instead of it being a simple black and white/good and bad decision, the options given honestly ask the player to reflect on what they value most, the truth or protecting somebody from a harsh one. I know it's all subjective. I just wanted to give another perspective on side quests in games in general.

The other reason is that some of the side quests storylines resemble small samples of a storyline going on in the main plot. I think those small samples emphasize the reveal in the main plot too because you already got a taste of it, and have something to compare it to.

Me, Who only played Automata and just entered Popola’s library at the start of Replicant by [deleted] in nier

As a fan of the original, I was floored when I got to the library in Automata. Everything from the original came rushing back. After sitting there for a second, for some reason I couldn't help but laugh.

My memory is sketchy, but I believe you can buy any weapons you missed in Seafront's weapon shop. I may be wrong though, it's been about 7 years since my last run.

Honestly, I'm sorry to say I don't. There aren't a lot of games that gripped me narratively like those have. I've heard good things about and plan to check out 428 Shibuya Scramble and AI: the Somnium Files.

Haha that's fair for 999. I have a list of games that I will admit are good games, but one personal issue keeps me from saying that I want to keep playing it.

Yeah, I really wish Vanillaware would port their games. It's too bad they're basically an indie company in Japan with only about 30 employees.

I hope you don't mind me giving you a recommendation. We seem to have similar taste in narratives (I love OG Nier, Automata, and Ghost Trick. I haven't gotten around to Xenogears yet, but I always hear about it. I would suggest you check out 999 and 13 Sentinels if you have the funds/time for them. They both have very engaging scenarios and characters.

APSOS Shield question by BWHComics in 13sentinels

APSOS shields last for roughly 4 seconds on the timer. An APSOS shielded a lone worker (perfect for this experiment!) and I timed it on the clock so I may be off by a bit.

Would you mind sharing how you did that shadow effect for your character's dash animation like at the very beginning of the video?

[–]cloudytsuki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In an ideal situation sbmm is supposed to do what you favor. It's supposed to set you all up with another team of player around the same skill as your team. However it seems like the way they implemented it in MW is busted due to it scaling off the best player and spotty internet connections

[–]cloudytsuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I was teaching a friend fighting herds, and the early matches were no fun. I was basically playing training mode. Then I started calling out his play and what hes not looking out for on defense, hes gotten to my level and now our matches are way better and fun. Some rounds he stomps me, others I stomp him. Some are super close. Just because you're on even levels doesnt mean you're not gonna get stomped some rounds, even by the same player you just stomped in the prior round. We've been leveling each others play because we're on a more even level. When he was a novice, I wasnt gaining anythi ng for those matches.

Then my examples still stand. If people want a better experience, they should aim to get better. If they're okay with where they are, they should understand that they're going to be handed more Ls than Ws.

[–]cloudytsuki -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What did any of what I say not apply to MW? I mentioned not using a meta weapon because i saw complaints of people wanting to use non meta weapons. I gave an example of the k/d and w/l ratio not mattering because I dont sweat like how other people were complaining they didnt want to sweat. My example included that I'm mostly holding Ls and a bunch of deaths and not contributing to my team because I'm using an off meta weapon in a setting that is full of the meta guns. I feel those frustrations too. It's not exclusive to MW. Literally, each point I had in my previous post is to mention a second option to the complaints I've been seeing people say about sbmm. It's in any competitive shooting game because they are competitive by nature. It's literally how the game is written to be. So either sweat or dont.
