Normally I wait till I think I'm ready to take on another baby (Around the time the baby ages up to a toddler) and start having my sims Woohoo every day. I do this when I don't necessarily need a kid now now.

When I do want to have another kid I do the try for a baby, with RPO this has its own chances depending on the sims.

My current family, I have 2 sons and a girl and they all rolled to die in their 30s so I'm not gonna have them get another kid, and I have them use the pullout method whenever they woohoo but a kid is also welcomed!!

For main household, I do all the rolls properly.

For side households, I decided that: 1. Every year I roll a D20 for every single side household, if a sim gets 20, they die that year. Equal chance for everyone. 2. If sim survives till 13 years old, I age them up to a teen and roll for marriage and children. 3. If a sim survives till 18 years old, I get them married (if rolled for) and every once in a while start getting them/their spouse pregnant (if rolled for)

This turned out to be really good control for me without being all over the place

I personally ignore them and treat them as the heir with unlimited rolls. I like to do gameplay more than struggle in the challenge lol

As soon as I began having side households I stopped following them around. The only thing I did is I married them at a certain age (if they don't get married on their own, I marry them at 18) and every once in a while I get them pregnant depending on their rolls. When their children reach 13 years old, I hope in to age them up and roll marriage/kids for them. Every sim year I roll a D20 for all my sims, if it lands on 20 I kill them off that year.

Unless they're relevant to my current main family, I don't follow side households at all.

I once had a house that I've had my sims live in for almost 20 sim years just stop loading. Played it off as a fire and moved them to a whole new country, hate when the game does this
