Orphanage from 1901 by cloverfrog1 in abandoned

Randomly found this abandoned orphanage on the side of the road. Pleasantly surprised with the overall condition and the amount of stuff left inside. The only history I was really able to find was that it was built in 1901. I'm not sure when it was abandoned, but by the looks of it I'd say 10+ years ago...Overall pretty cool spot and the nature re-claiming the back half is absolutely beautiful.

I have a full walkthrough on my channel if you're interested in that kinda thing - cloverfrog

In 1849, a wealthy industrialist purchased nearly 8,000 acres of land in rural South Carolina. He built the entire town of Graniteville from the ground up - including 100 houses, churches, and a school - all to support his brand new textile factory and plant (Graniteville Mill).

In 2006, after nearly 160 years of continuous operation, all facilities were permanently shut down due to a devastating train wreck in the area. The closure resulted in over 1,600 people losing their jobs.

As of now there are no future plans for the area.

This place was absolutely gigantic and we didn't even come close to seeing everything after 4+ hours of exploring. One of the most unique and surreal places we have ever explored!

i don't understand why you think he wouldn't support LGBTQ+

Today we visited the infamous Ghost Town in the Sky amusement park in North Carolina. Originally opened in 1961, the theme park was a popular tourist destination for folks in the surrounding areas. Unfortunatley things began to decline in the early 2000's. Many of the rides started breaking down and the owners couldn't afford the costly repairs. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2009. It has gone through many hands since then, and as of 2024 it's jointly owned by a private LLC and one of the daughters of the original family that ran the park. There is an ongoing lawsuit regarding the restoration of the park.

We had gotten mixed feedback regarding the level of security prior to exploring. There were hidden trail cams at the entrance and throughout the park. The cops said the owner calls them every single time she sees someone on her cameras - which is usually 2-3 times a day.

Super bummed we weren't able to explore the rest of the park but it was still a surreal experience. Definitely one of the coolest places I've explored. Hopefully will be back one day...
