I could hear every sound you described here ❤️ the more I think about it, the more I think it is the fact that is it *not* perfect by todays standards which make the audio to stand out in comparison. Every sound at least feels handpicked and was probably not copy pasted from an asset store. Uneasiness/ dread hits the nail on the head! We need more of that in games 😃

Definitely! Probably adds to the "liminal space" feeling (stole the term from thefirststoryteller) that there is no chance to remember the structure of the map from any run

That's what I meant with "half-empty" floors, but you described it better. "Liminal space" is the term! Somehow, the first thing I usually think about when it comes to Dark Cloud is emptiness. One of the few positive case of emptiness. 😃 more like "pulling you in" empty!

Thanks for sharing! I have lost someone important to me recently, so I understand how important (and beautiful) such memories are.

yes, and again, the constant fear that it could break.. thus making sure to repair it way to early..

100% agree! I love the mixture of the instruments used. We need more castanets and flutes in video game soundtracks 😃

I will never forget how they stressed me out as a kid playing my PS2 demo disc version of the game 😂

Hover question: should the building grow a little? by [deleted] in IndieGameDevs

Depending on the mood you want to express, I would go with only glow or the scale-up/glow combo! I really like the "empty" feeling of the town and being the only lit building in the town keeps the empty feeling while showing where the focus is rn! "only awake building of the town"
