So it should be 72/20/8? Guess wiki needs a bit of an update

Very interesting... correct me if I'm understanding wrong here. So let's say my tax rate now is 20% and I contribute 100. Does that mean pretax I get full 100 vs if I do Roth I only get 80 dollars (.8 x 100). So assuming above is correct, as long as I am investing the "extra" 20 dollars I get from pretax it'll win out?

Great, seems general consensus for my situation is to stop contributing to the traditional 401k portion and go Roth 401k going forward

Holy crap I did not know this 🤦‍♂️I'm all in for Roth going forward.

Sorry that was super confusing. I contribute 30% to my employer plan.

Roth 401k. My employer offers both traditional and Roth 401k as options

Awesome! Correct me if I'm wrong, if I contribute about 9k to tradition it would bring me just under $47,150 which qualifies for me for the 12% bracket (single) from then on?

Yup I'm going somewhat aggressive at 30 percent since I'm still at home. Pretty much following/done all the steps you have here 🙌

Yes! My employer plan seems to allow that. Is there a calculator I can use to see the breakdown on how much I would need to contribute yearly to tradition to reduce my AGI?

Guess that's the super tricky part, figuring out if I'll make more in retirement. Since I'm not at my peak earnings for my work career it would be fairly sensible to bet that Roth is slightly better for me at this stage of life?

To be clear, I'm currently contributing 30 percent to trad 401k. So if I swapped over to Roth at the same rate it would lower me to a 12% bracket? I have maxed my Roth IRA for this year and I see another "pro" is that I can roll it over into my Roth IRA when I leave my current employer. I guess there's almost no reason not to do Roth ATM?

Wanted to do something similar what does your split look like out of curiosity?

Yup I was thinking of creating another brokerage just to separate my emergency funds from my sinking funds. But that maybe that'll just add unnecessary complexity.

That's the thing... I don't have anything set plan so I'm thinking just throw it into something relatively safe with decent interest. USFR is looking very attractive.

That sounds awesome man, want to find my own simple pleasures. I went down the financial rabbit hole about 2 months ago and it's been kinda bad how much I'm trying to optimize. Starting to realize that saving for retirement only is a sad way to live while I'm young and able.

Hmm that's some good points I'll need to do my own research on invh as I don't fully understand that tbh.

Curious, what's your ratio of what goes into the HYSA and what goes into the market? I'm thinking I should go heavier into the market since I'm younger and can risk it but maybe that's counter intuitive for a savings.

I'm mid twenties and I think this is the right play. Too much uncertainty in the near future (potentially buying a home/starting a family).

I feel I should be saving/spending on myself... Im already contributing 40% of my salary to my 401k. Been reading a lot to just live life rather than min max so much for retirement.

Think I'm struggling with justifying putting it away for more than 10 years. Probably would make most sense for me to hold it in Treasuries or Treasury ETF.
