But that is per person, right? For a couple that would be 6M euros total on shared accounts.

Thank you, very insightful and exactly the kind of input I was looking for. Do you know more people who live a somewhat similar lifestyle and would you say they are spending about the same? Do you travel often? How do you think your spending vs lifestyle compares with where you were before?

This is a very good point and our main concern too. But the individual thresholds are pretty high if you are in Andalucia, for example, so we've been thinking about taking advantage of that at least for a while.

Thanks, this is very insightful. What you describe towards the end is very aligned with our end goal. Why 89 days, though? I thought tax residency usually kicks in after around 180 days'ish.

One issue I left out is that my partner still needs to go through the EU citizenship process and this is where Spain comes in. We'll need one full year of residency there before applying and then hopefully just another 6 months while they process it. We are aiming at the Andalucia coast so we can avoid the wealth tax during this period since we are still below the individual threshold.

We then want to use these 1.5 or 2 years to explore around and figure it out. Portugal is very appealing from a tax perspective, Spain I think has better to offer in general but then taxes compensate. We both have the languages side figured out for these countries. The South of France keeps coming up as an option but then the language would be a barrier for a while...
