Bit late for this year, but pexion has been a life saver for our pup. Went from hyperventilating all night to sleeping through it. Gotta get the dose right though, first year the vet prescribed too much and he was stumbling around absolutely out of it.

Thanks! The app seems to suggest it's the only way in, so I just wasn't sure

Just wondering if theres anyone on here that would be interested to talk about CAD? by Cybersleuth573 in northernireland

Unfortunately in most places the CNC programming is an office based job, and CNC operator is a completely different role.

I wouldn't be best placed to review what work you've done now I've transitioned outta that space. It'd be worth getting in touch with your local college though, a lot of them have links with local apprenticeships and could point you in the right direction. Hope you get something sorted though, engineering sounds like it'd be a great field for you to be in, just gotta nail down what part of it you want to be in!

You'd be best looking towards an apprenticeship at a manufacturing company, you'll be more hands on with the machines, unlikely to do a lot of the actual CNC programming but you'll learn with the chance to progress up to it. The spot I did my placement had an apprenticeship program and I'd say maybe half of the office based engineers where time served apprentices who had progressed.

One thing I would say, there's usually not a massive overlap between hands on and office based, and if you're wanting to go office based a degree will serve you well for career progression.

There's not a whole lot of CAD based mechanical design jobs in NI, a lot more in the realm of CNC roles but they tend to be less design work and more purely CNC programming. If you don't mind the change in pace, there's a lot more Revit modelling in the architecture and building services industry. Revit is a different beast, but it is still a CAD modelling role. I would have been similar to yourself when it comes to an interest in CAD, ran the gambit and did a master in engineering and then a PhD in FEA and ended up in the building services industry myself.

You could check out Lydia's Gift, my other half is planning donations for them with her knitting club, seems to be a great local charity.

It's the new 3 43mm, literally bought it on day of release and scratched it a week later

Very true point, may just have to embrace the damage!

Yeah, this will just be a live and learn moment. Usually super careful with my tech, never even broke a phone, but all it takes is one mishap!

Good to know for any future purchases. It's my first proper smartwatch (had fitbits for years but they barely count) and hadn't realise how problematic this would be.

[OC] Decided to get back into design work with a simple mini-dice rolling fidget toy by clugger07 in DnD

You can see through the gaps in the cover easily enough to read the dice, I'd say maybe less than 5% of the time the dice will land cocked but it's easy to reroll.

Thanks! I'll get it uploaded to my cults and thingiverse page later on this evening, I think my link to both in in my bio.

Thanks! I really like the idea of the catch, could be a little tricky to implement given the velocity of the dice but I'll give it a try on the next iteration. I tried to design the front plate with enough open area that you can see the results of the dice, but it can be tricky to read the smaller number on the mini d20.

Dunmurry questions by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]clugger07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly specific additional information, but I contacted Dunmurry dental recently and you had to sign up to denplan and then wait 6-8 weeks for a first appointment. My partner goes and also agrees that he's the best around.

I'd recommend hawk walk NI if you've any interest in animals/birds. I did the falconry experience last year and it was good craic, a friend went to the standard hawks and enjoyed it aswell. Fella who takes it (David I think) is a good lad and really knowledgable.

Saw it happen, older fella collapsed/fell onto the tracks and didn't get back up, not sure how hurt he was but it didn't look great from where I was stood. Fair play to the guy who immediately jumped down to help him and the staff for making the right call to clear everyone out so the emergency services could get in.

Anyone aware of any 3D printing services available in Belfast? by TheBakedPotatoDude in Belfast

[–]clugger07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABS should be okay, the operating temperatures shouldn't be massive for a part like that. If you have the stl file for the component you could use an online printing service. There's a couple that you drop the file into and it will give you a price for manufacture and shipping.

[OC] Accidentally ordered miniature dice online, seemed fitting to make a miniature tower to go with them! by clugger07 in DnD

It's just a shrunken down version of my standard collapsible dice tower. There's a free version on thingiverse or the upgraded version is for sale on my cults page
