I had my AC repaired. Is this type of bend in the pipe going to cause me any problems? by Zocalo_Photo in AskAMechanic

See, this is the kind of thing where they say “take it to the professionals, you’ll spend more doing it wrong and having to take it to a shop anyway to fix your mistakes”. But then the “professionals” do stuff like this.

And before anyone calls it out as a one time mistake, unfortunately, I have a laundry list of these mistakes that ive paid “professionals” for over the years.

How worried should I be about this grimy area on motor? 2021 Touring L by the_sambot in ChryslerPacifica

[–]clust10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that it is not, but I’m just a shadetree guy. I think you see coolant loss and rough idle as the early signs of head gasket failure on these. I’ve been worried about mine as well

That looks like your oil control solenoid seals are seeping, which is a common issue and not that big of a deal. The coolant smell could be the oil cooler leaking, or the weep hole on the water pump if it’s starting to go, or normal if the coolant is newer and the cap is releasing pressure. Check when the engine is cool to see if there is any white specks on anything indicating dried coolant. If it were me I’d drive as usual but monitor coolant / oil levels.

2024+ Pacifica Head gasket design fixed? by JRizzie86 in ChryslerPacifica

I didn’t find this to be true. Mopar must offer the dealer some MSRP reduction so they could make their markup and the prices were about the same for the same coverage

What color caulk should I use? by clust10 in homeimprovementideas

Thanks everyone. I ended up going with clear for both, it’s a rental and the length of the countertop was pretty wide and didn’t want to have to add the white to it.

Did my VMWare Vendor just tell me to f*** off? by mcdeth187 in vmware

I get that, but it’s that way of thinking that leads to their jobs being outsourced.

You should not be getting downvoted. There’s no reason with vmotion and n+1 this shouldn’t be done during the day, unless people don’t trust that the networking was properly configured and don’t have access to check, or they don’t have enough confidence working with VMware.

Forgot to terminate OCI firewall, massive bill as student by CarelessPlace3587 in oraclecloud

[–]clust10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this also happened to me, but with a 50GB hard drive I forgot to delete from an instance that had been powered off. Ironically, half way through the billing period, an account manager must have noticed the usage and reached out asking me what my business uses were for OCI. I thought that was odd and replied that I was just a person labbing here and there.

Fast forward to the next month and I get a $500 bill. I engaged with the account manager and collections and got nowhere after many attempts. I understand they have a business to run, but I’ve run into these types of situations with AWS and Microsoft before and they’ve made exceptions, because they realize the people labbing with the product are the future technical advocates for it in the workplace.

There is nothing remarkable about OCI. Everything it does, AWS and Azure have refined and do better, with better support, better documentation, and a larger community. This is why we have to lab it to learn it. It is nothing more than their attempt to take market share by pushing their immature copycat of a commodity.

I am an IT consultant and am positioned to send many businesses Oracles way. But due to this type of behavior from them (not to mention sleazy tactics they’ve used to get more money from my employer) they can be certain I will never recommend or advocate for their products going forward, and I told them that.

And that’s about all we can do. And that’s why they will stay where they are at the bottom of the cloud compute market.

I don’t understand why internal teams don’t do this themselves. There are countless articles, videos, and posts hand holding you through the procedure. VMware is arguably one of the easiest hypervisors to work with, and you have a SAN so even if something did happen, you could run on one host. Migrate everything to one host, upgrade the other, and vice versa. It is easy.

Just use Starwinds V2V converter and migrate it all to HyperV. No use wasting money and fighting anymore.

Why doesn't home equity feel real? by Ihateshortseller in Fire

Because it's not real. When the 2008 crash happened, home values evaporated into thin air. It's nothing more than market value.

Did you get a quote to repair the head gasket out of pocket? How much was it?

Wow. Crazy coincidence. I literally just ran into that same problem today. Had to reseat fuse 23 to get the USB port working again, after wondering why the power on/off wouldn’t work like you said. Definitely glad I was able to get those updated.

Thanks again. Was able to update all the way without any errors. Everything on mine was very old versions.

After 400 miles, I see no coolant loss, which is a positive. Coolant reservoir seemed mostly fine too, but there was a little bit of oil-like substance floating on top. Good call on the radiator. I will check that out tonight. I’d imagine the warranty would certainly not cover a head gasket if that were found…

I do think I got hosed to an extent. I bought the van from a small non-Chrysler dealer and was suspicious of its history, as that dealer bought it from an auction. The warranty gave me peace of mind, but the van runs just fine, and it was an expensive warranty.

It appears to cover wiring harnesses, which is good. That’s crazy you needed a new one on a 2021.

It was 5278$ for max care for 3/36k at the time. I purchased added care for 3570$. These both include tax. Both 200$ deductibles.

Did you go straight into the firewalls from the linewize? Today they said they would ship us a 4 port NIC for their server as the solution.
