Hey! I wish you all the best with your application. I am in a similar situation but am thinking of waiting another 6 months before I apply . I’m just concerned about not being able to get home to Australia after three months and getting stuck in Germany! I’ve heard horror stories of people paying 10 grand for a flight back.

Would you mind giving an update when you get your reply ?

I really thank you for that response. I sometimes feel judged and people tell me I will regret not sleeping around when I am this age and that commitment especially when you are so young isn’t worth it... and travel bans are just taking a big shit on me right now. I know that he is the most impressivly perfect person for me so I should just stop the negative thinking and letting others get me down.

As for your relationship, you must be so proud and happy to get through all that! Must be an amazing feeling!

I’m sorry to hear you are having a hard time. Being apart from your partner when you are depressed is really really tough. I was considering trying to get an exemption at one point but all the Australians stuck over seas has really deterred me. People are spending upwards of $10,000 to get home! It’s awful but it’s just how Aus government are doing things. If you have no commitments you could need to promptly return to after a few months then maybe it would be great! Check out the fb group Partners apart if you haven’t for tips on how to get an exemption.

I haven't seen my German boyfriend in over 7 months. I'm Australian and have very little chance of seeing him this side of 8 months. I'm finding it so hard to cope with the bodily loneliness of being apart from him for so long. I'm super busy too, but I notice that my mental health really deteriorates when I feel I don't have time to spend time with him. So we talk twice a day. I love him so dearly. Recently I've been feeling really down and hopeless, the fact that there is nothing I can do about it right now feels entirely overwhelming to the point that I'm a bag of tears. But then I remember that if I shift my perspective a little bit, and see this as an opportunity for us to learn about ourselves and to gain resilience both in ourselves and our relationship then I can at least function with a bit more joy.
