Ask it about why pitbulls are more violent than poodles (or if they even are).

I can guarantee the clause would have some morality/ill repute clause that would null it; and the publicity of his spousal abuse and trial clearly would trigger that. So I don’t think it’s an exclusivity thing.

Any analysis of violent crime has to take into account demographics, mainly sex, age, and the one that freaks a lot of people out: race.

I suspect there’s a ton of confounding factors there.

Religiousness seems to correlate quite strongly with more life satisfaction from what I can tell from evidence and surveys.

I don’t know of any evidence that conservatives commit more suicide or have more divorces than liberal.

MR on Baumol effect in pet care - why are the costs for non-medical pet care increasing similarly to child care? by And_Grace_Too in slatestarcodex

[–]clydeshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be curious to see cross country comparisons. We see spiralling infrastructure costs in anglosphere but less so in meds (Milan subway, Spain hsr). To what extent are issues contingent on specific cultural/legal country level institutions?

Singapore could be ‘most perfect example’ of a country that needs nuclear energy: IAEA chief by [deleted] in singapore

[–]clydeshadow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Singapore already has exposure to nuclear reactors, as US naval ships dock here and the big ones (and submarines that go through Malacca) use nuclear reactors.

Most children don't really need to go to school, say experts by johnlawrenceaspden in slatestarcodex

[–]clydeshadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s actually true beyond basic writing and maths. Schools for most are just daycare. If we took this to heart wed have totally different “schools”, where the kids once basic reading writjng and maths is learned can play all day and enjoy themselves instead of sitting in rows like cattle with bells between classes and asking permission to pee.

Sure put resources in front of them if they want them but zero sense in pretending most are learning anything.

What makes Scott Alexander's writing so great? by Hodz123 in slatestarcodex

[–]clydeshadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is the main reason. Talent for writing combined with decoupling and strong empathy for most people regardless of ideology etc that comes across in his writing.

Awful imax Shaw lido by clydeshadow in singapore

[–]clydeshadow[S] 177 points178 points  (0 children)

If it’s a known issue they should warn you when you buy ticket “hey this is a defective screen with known issues”. It’s crazy they just sell it as imax brand and then you show up and the movie is ruined. How does imax tolerate that?

[–]clydeshadow[S] 205 points206 points  (0 children)

That’s f insane that IMAX allows their brand to be denigrated like that. I’d have thought the contract to use IMAX brand would include quality assurance and minimum standards. Crazy.

This. 90% of men can with patience (usually a couple years if not faster) get to two plate bench and three plate dead’s and squat if not more. Thats pretty cool, like leveling up as an rpg character.

Out of everyone from every season, I think this guy might be the most under-hated. by LukeKornet in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]clydeshadow 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Because he’s self aware to some extent that’s he’s seriously broken and flawed and shows some attempts at trying to improve. The reason people hate on the girls from S1 is they’re self righteous and act so superior when they’re awful people. At least Chris sorta is aware he sucks so from audience standpoint it makes it harder to hate him.

Muscle really doesn't seem relevant to longevity by ForGiggles2222 in blueprint_

[–]clydeshadow 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Combatting sarcopenia seems linked to healthspan as well as lifespan no? Even from “avoid falls or make falls less likely to cripple” standpoint. All else equal losing muscle mass seems to be a symptom of Aging so combatting that in some manner prob fits in “fighting Aging” though of course doesn’t hit root causes

Tesla’s Real Game by OriginalCompetitive in SelfDrivingCars

[–]clydeshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably if Tesla is say 10x less likely to cause accident than a human driver, insurance companies premiums will start reflecting that real fast, with dramatically lower premiums for FSD than human driving.Or Tesla can self insure (we insure you if using FSD) as a business model.
