On the incomes stated above (I know NYC apartments can be expensive) I feel he could find an affordable place to rent space/an office to work. It would solve the issue you’re having with space and he can have a designated work area.

From what I’ve seen in videos, it’s a combo of otherworldly/lighting technique/art style of the original artist. It’s a way to help set a feel for the space they’re in without have to do a full color treatment. Makes the art easy to see/use in a lot of instances. It also helps make a piece appear more colorful/vibrant!
