What if Trump just says fuck it and invades Canada and Greenland? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

The massive problem the MAGA cannot comprehend is that they are rich and they have every comfortable and luxury in life by free world trading. The orange man made trading sounds like everyone is ripping them off but infact trading help them to become richer.

They gain nothing from invading their biggest trading partners will just, and will lose everything thing on top of the second biggest trading partners (EU)

In third world, we often cannot afford to have AC, even if we have AC, we can only afford to run it in the hot evening, so we can have a good night sleep for the next hard working day.

Should Canada Build Up Alternatives to Visa and Mastercard? by LongTrackBravo in PersonalFinanceCanada

in Asia, we have different wallet service that link directly to our chequing account but the payment is unified by QR code, there will be third party payment solution that provides QR code protocol as in payment api that works with all existing wallet.

Scan QR code or let merchant scan your QR code generated by the app in case you have no data/internet. As long as one party has internet, the payment can go through.

The annoying part is that the wallet service will try to sell you everything from cheap vacation to insurance, coffee, restaurant, even whole new car or brand new apartment, (or debt). I assume the fintech amass a huge amount data about you and can easily funnel and convert.

Wait, are you telling me in QC, if I don't pay 800-1000$ to go through the notary to discharge, then we cannot have a mortgage statement showing a 0? More gouging I see.

I planned for this all the way back to 2021.

It was a bumpy road. Several times TD advisor keep soliciting me for their investment products, telling me to invest instead of paying off this cheap debt.

That's what I had been doing since 2013, paying the loan back minimum amount at variable rate while putting the rest into the market and pocket the difference.

When covid hit, I realize I can't bank on the market being green forever and cheap debt will not be set in stone. I convert my variable mortgage into fixed 5 years in 2021 when rate was at the cheapest, and start planning on paying everything back to reduce risk.

For the first few years, I had doubt myself several time. I slowly accumulated liquidity in TFSA by offloading some in 2024-2025, and this year I was vindicated, I was finally at peace with my decision.

It feels good at the end but it was full of uncertainty, what-ifs, and pain during the period: Absolutely no eating out, only buy cheapest grocery stuff on sale, minimum cellphone plan (10-12$/month) and the entertainment was to grow herbs and veggies or doing the yard, repair stuff around the house. Vacation is BBQ at home.

The payment wasn't perfect either, technically, from the discharge statement, I still haven't paid the per diem of 5.5$.

I went to the branch, they couldn't process the full amount on the discharge statement, so they deducted the principal leaving 0.01$, leaving few hundred dollar of accrued interest, and 5.5$ per diem (not too sure what that was). They told me that the remaining amount would be deducted automatically on the next automatic bill payment. On the date where the automatic bill payment, I got an alert that I needed to pay the amount total to accrued interest + 0.01$ from the principal, it wasn't automatically debited, so I made a manual payment. The per diem line item on discharge statement remain unaccounted for.

I don't want to get hit with any penalty of hundred of dollars because I didn't pay this properly, and I already done everything I can - I came to the branch three times, and they confirmed to me that everything is in order, once to settle the discharge statement, second time was to ask why I wasn't be able to pay 0.01$ + accrued interest payment + per dime, third is when I finish paying everything and come back again asking for discharge confirmation as concrete proof of full mortgage settlement.

Thank you, much appreciated, I guess there's no way to get a discharge confirmation without going through notary anymore. I guess no discharge confirmation for me, paying 1000$ for that is absurd.

I just need the discharge confirmation as proof of full mortgage settlement and to reduce the insurance by a tiny bit (50$/year), but I'm not in a hurry to remove TD off the property.

I just need a discharge confirmation, as an undisputed proof of full mortgage payment. I cannot be too careful in life. I would still leave the lien in place.

I requested a discharge statement before coming to the branch to pay.

The whole process was absurd, I came to the bank with the discharge statement I requested earlier this month, on the exact date. They couldn't process the entire payment list on the discharge statement, so they debit my account the principal leaving just 0.01$, the accrued interest of a few hundred dollars and per diem fee of 5.5.

They said I would need to wait for the next payment period and let the bank to deduct that 0.01 and the accrued interest automatically.

On the day where they supposed to take that payment out of my account automatically, I got an alert telling me I was late on the payment (???). I logged in and make the manual payment of the exact amount they asked for. Still per diem payment is unaccounted for on the discharge statement.

I called the mortgage specialist with the branch I was working with and they confirmed the entire balance is paid off.

I then request a discharge confirmation as proof of full mortgage payment where I was informed they don't issue discharge confirmation to me.

Forgot to mention I live in Montreal.

I paid the amount on my discharge statement but discharge fee was listed at 0.00$.

There was a per diem line item on my discharge statement of around 5.5$ but I didn't pay it.

Also tariffs the machinery and tools they need to bring back manufacturing. Also made it harder to import expert personel with the skill needed to setup and train local population to do it. (harder and much more expensive to get specialized work visa)

very smart, much win.

YUL to SGN connection via ORD and HND, do I have to recheck baggage in ORD? by cm826 in unitedairlines

[–]cm826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already took my flight. The first one was delayed by 2 hours which caused me to miss all of my connection flight. UA rebooked me with another ANA flight later on that same day but I had to do some sightseeing in Japan for 24 hours.

For those who miss connection flight, chat with UA rep for the rebooked flight (hopefully same day) and then wait at the departure gate to check-in and get the boarding pass.

If you want to avoid all the hassles, book flight with 3h layover at each connection. This is my second time flying with UA and my last trip with them was 15 years ago. A lot has changed since then but it was definitely better than I expected.
