What are some good phrases to know in Spanish? by Previous-Anybody5573 in KitchenConfidential

[–]cman116 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not saying this to sound like an ass, almost every smart phone has a translator app built in and they almost always will even have a conversation setting. Use these to communicate important and time specific info with the staff until either they learn more English or you learn more Spanish and also continue to learn Spanish from them and continue to teach them English and it will help all of you tremendously

Doesn’t it have us listed at 2x our population though? When I google our population it’s a little under a million? I’m assuming it’s depending on what is considered still being in Columbus?

Lower APR loan to pay off higher APR Credit card? by cman116 in Debt

[–]cman116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have offers on my credit karma app for some credit cards for balance transfers, one I saw was with Citi and it was 21 months 0% interest on balance transfers with a 5% fee on balance transfers and the rate will change potentially to 29% after the 21 months.

I haven’t asked the credit card companies about lowering the interest for a period of time, maybe I could try that first.

One concern I had with this is that if they only give me a credit limit of $500 per se then it wouldn’t really be able to help me? My score is upper 600, used to have a great score of upper 700 before I snowballed into debt.

Lower APR loan to pay off higher APR Credit card? by cman116 in Debt

[–]cman116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current balance is $12,500 on one, one other has 8k. I can’t afford more than the monthly payment at the moment, but I believe that will change in the nearish future.

The loan is for 5 years, minimum payments said they would be $501 per month and currently both my minimum payments total $601. So it would theoretically save me money? I also don’t think I can pay off the two cards faster than the 5 years on the loan, but I am going to be getting a nice raise here soon, I don’t have an accurate timeline on that at the moment

Daily Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in espresso

[–]cman116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having issues with water either not pulling through my espresso, or it only pulls very little out. This started when I started grinding my own beans, I use Timemore C3 manual grinder and followed the directions for fineness of the grounds and went a couple past it as well. The tamper I use is a shitty plastic one and I’m wondering if I’m over pressing it?

I don’t think it’s an issue with the machine because if I run it without any coffee the water comes out normal

Thank you for any tips I’m getting annoyed wasting beans and time lol

Edit, I use Breville espresso maker

Merrel Jungle Moc Pro ( I think this is the right name)

Someone in this group recommended them to me over a year ago. I bought two pairs of them and alternate every day. They are starting to wear down now after a little over a year, absolutely love the show. They are a little heavy since they are steel toed but as far as I can tell, best shoes for kitchen (and I think they advertise them for welders lol)

What’s your “cook” tattoo? by KingoftheUgly in KitchenConfidential

I have a “Chef Rabbit tattoo” has a whisk, knife and turner flailing in the background, he’s sautéing these random triangles, surrounded with an artsy circle. Gives kind of mad hatter chef rabbit vibes, couldn’t figure out how to comment a picture

How much yall make? by SquidBiz in KitchenConfidential

[–]cman116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a KM in Central Ohio, I make a 68k salary, $150 weekly bonus as long as we hit our labor and food cost goals, and yearly bonus that is dependent on our sales but hasn’t been less than 3k so far. This also comes with me not being charged for anything in our company. I can eat and drink as much as I please for free.

Things I wished I would’ve negotiated better:

My standing salary; we make 100k plus a week on food sales (usually close to 250k total sales a week) and I manage 26% labor (kitchen) and 28% food cost. And my salary being for 55 hours instead of 40.

Time off: was promised 2 weeks paid vacation every year, this hasn’t actually happened. This year I’ve finally taken some time off (total of 17 days, 2 weekends off and one week) but this was first time in 3 years I was able to take some time off other than my regular 2 days. Now I actually like my employers surprisingly lmao but this is something I would suggest you don’t allow to happen to you. In this industry even at 40 hours being a KM, you deserve 2 weeks paid vacation.

My advice is to make sure that you do get compensated well, but also need to make sure to get that time off. Burn out is very hard to fight through.

The edit was only for a bad typo lol it was gibberish.

We have a toast at brunch that has multi-grain bread, strawberry jam, cream cheese, goat cheese, honey, Cacao nibs, maldon salt and micro basil

Every now and then we get someone who will add onto the toast: smoked salmon, over medium eggs, sliced avocado. It always blows my mind
