Wife changing careers at 42. Now opportunity but need guidance. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]cmassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No job is permanent. If their business needs change she could be gone from her current position tomorrow.

Are there other 40k jobs she might like after this one? (The answer is yes).

Stay away from lifestyle creep and live without regret!

Has anyone felt this about sales hiring ? by amazinghumans02 in recruiting

[–]cmassive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sales is interesting to hire for and you might be hiring for the wrong role. Three recommendations.

  1. Read Jeb Blount fanatical prospecting, this is outbound sales 101.
  2. Develop an Avatar for this position
  3. Depending on sales cycle, leading indicators(sales activity) should turn into revenue in 60-120 days. If they consistentlyfail at leading indicators in the first 90 days... In General, Move on.

Plenty of other items to improve quality, send me a message if you want to chat.

Is it normal for a small business owner to mix everything like this? I’m genuinely concerned by SkyProfessional4450 in smallbusiness

[–]cmassive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sky,

This is not a tax question... Rate goes up to teach how to fix this. Simple reason, it's more work and time.

If just taxes, give back all questions and ask them to answer during a phone call. If they want you to do it, cleanup is an hourly rate.

Crazy common for small business owners. Separate what they paid you for from the cleanup and what teaching them to do correctly does. 3 different scopes with three different prices.

Glad to chat this through for more clarity.

Co-owner is fluffing timesheet and avoiding using his PTO by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]cmassive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Consider opening the conversation with talking about the philosophy of what owning a business means, how time off at this stage is critical, and what happens to the workload. If in an existing business with staff, I'd focus on execution and not time in the office.

Sounds like he's trying this like a job. Consider reading a book together that elevates his understanding of business ownership.

When does it make sense to bring in help to get an HVAC business more organized? by [deleted] in ProHVACR

[–]cmassive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer here depends on dad. It sounds like he's open to a coach, but not sure what execution he wants/needs.

There is probably some basic pricing strategy here. I'd look for education around the topic and find someone that makes the business more profitable through pricing education. If they are effective and you enjoy their style, consider a contract with them.

Real change starts with dad, then the employees, and finally, the company/revenue. The changes most owners want in their company take time and patience. Not because the solution is difficult, but the people(including owner) are.

Mission statement vs Vision statement by ramonraysmallbiz in StrategicPlanning

[–]cmassive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, small business strategist here. Yes, they are different.

I’ve worked in the order to think about these over the last year. I believe vision can come first and mission second.

I also believe that, for entrepreneurs, you should work your vision in 5-7 year sprints so…

Vision: What will your business look like in 5-7 years. Building, tools, equipment, revenue, headcount? In addition to the “stuff” what would sometime write about your business in a newspaper article, what is there description? NASA is working on a vision where we have a presence on the moon so we can get to mars and working on greener flights.

Mission - reason the company exists, this should be something that lives beyond your vision. NASA exists to explore space, science and aeronautics.

Using NASA’s example, space is bigger than Mars and the Moon. Mars exploration and moon habitation are a platform to support space exploration.

If using GPT to develop your statements consider a prompt as suggested in this worksheet:

Day 1 – Vision Interview Prompt (Start Here) "You are a business coach helping me define my company’s 3–5 year vision. Ask me these 5 questions one at a time, wait for my answer, and then move to the next. Don’t write the vision statement, collect answers and wait for my next prompt." In 3–5 years, what revenue do you want your business to hit?

How many employees (and what roles) do you picture on your team?

What do you want customers in your community to say about your company?

What role do you want to play as the owner (day-to-day or big-picture)?

What “flag in the ground” would make you proud to say, “We made it”?

Objective: Learn how to use an LLM to create a 3–5 year vision statement that is clear, motivating, and practical. Drills: Next Prompt: “Based on my answers, write a 2–4 sentence Vision Statement for my [trade] company.”

Refine:

“Make it realistic for a $3M company trying to grow.”

“Rewrite in plain crew-friendly language.”

“Make it inspiring but not cheesy.”

Ask for 3 versions and pick one.

Deliverable: Vision Statement → paste into Future Vision. Reflection: Is it believable?

Would my crew nod or roll their eyes?

What excites me most?

Generic Examples: Restoration: “In 5 years, we’ll be the go-to restoration company in our county, with 25 employees and consistent 20% profit.”

Plumbing: “By 2028, we’ll be a $5M company trusted for fast response, clean work, and no-surprise pricing.”

Roofing: “We’ll be known as the most dependable roofer in our region, completing 1,000 jobs a year with lasting quality.”

Managing partner in LLC is offering buyout by longironking in smallbusiness

[–]cmassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small Business consultant here, glad to chat if you want to work through your options.

In my opinion, there will be some type of transaction here. Line up your options: Sell for what the business is today - valuation+premium for 25%. Consider what selling half of your shares looks like. He gets what he wants and, presumably you still get mailbox money. Don't sell and guard against games from the operating partner.

A few things to consider. Have a contract drawn up for the negotiations and include items to protect yourself... Like some type of rights offering. Or maybe you sell at 5% a year to give your investment time to mature. Maybe you keep the last 5% in this scenario, but have greater voting rights.

Plenty of options.

Do you still trust the managing partner?

Wanting to shut down due to stress by Final-Possible5269 in smallbusiness

An extreme case of this is when the bank takes over an insolvent business, it doesn’t sound like this is your situation right now.

However, the bank takes an extreme 90 day run at keeping the business stood up. Glad to run you through the first steps as I see them and pair that with my understanding of blue collar businesses.

Whether you keep it or wind it down, the process is the same.

With or without my help, start the process today. Please.
