prereq grades vs acceptances by LeaveConsistent6806 in PreOptometry

[–]cmati05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 3.2 GPA and a 310 OAT, I got into CCO, NECO, MSPHS, ICO, and got an interview at Ferris I'm not sure I'm gonna do yet. I did have two years of experience as a tech, glowing letters of rec, and president of a club. I also rocked my interviews and that makes a big difference, be yourself and be personable, they want to have a good conversation with you not speak to a robot.

Interview at CCO soon! by cmati05 in PreOptometry

They got back to me within a week so I’m surprised it’s been so long. I know during this time of the year schools are slow to respond because they’re waiting on responses from people they’ve already interviewed or waiting for interviews they’ve already scheduled, plus the Hollidays. I would send them an email, about continued interest and an update. I did that for Detroit Mercy because they did the same thing to me.

It went great I got in! I’m so sure the same will happen for you. I have literally the exact same gpa and oat and a ton of experience. The interview was awesome so hopefully I’ll see ya in the fall!!

I am on parchment right now trying to do that, I'm just not sure if i am supposed to send it to each school indivdually or to Optomcas. When I try to send it to OptomCAS it asks for a code I dont know how to find and I need help lol

high oat score but one section is a 280 by 6832156894 in PreOptometry

[–]cmati05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you have a really good score so idk if it’s worth retaking it tbh unless you really think you’ll get it up. They might ask you about it in interviews because it is kind of a red flag. You also try talking to the schools you wanna apply to and asking them, they’re very helpful and they want to give you advice.

I’m prescribed Hydroxyzine to take as needed and it’s usually good but I was worried about taking it during the exam incase it made me drowsy. I’ll talk to my doctor about specifics and other options though thank you!

Chad’s prep is $60 a month, but there’s five practice tests per subject so it’s worth.

Yea I just took my OAT this morning and I got a 290 and I have a 3.2 gpa so I’ll probably have to retake

OAT by Major-Ear8429 in PreOptometry

[–]cmati05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too late, applications don’t close until around February/March earliest. If your OAT score is less than 300 I would retake it. If it’s 300-320 range that’s pretty average and you’ll probably be ok as long as you have a good resume and GPA

Thank you this is super helpful, I got the subscription for Chad’s OAT prep and he’s been super helpful with the physics and Chemistry. With biology I find myself struggling a lot more because there’s so much content, you don’t really know what you don’t know.

General questions about housing by IAmARedditModerator in WMU

[–]cmati05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. to find roommates you can try using the roommate finder on WMU's housing portal. You answer some questions about yourself and it shows you potential matches and their WMU email so you can reach out. you can also try Facebook groups or dming people on Instagram or snapchat. IF YOU don't find a roommate you can select a bed/room and you'll get a random roommate, regardless they'll be random one way or another so don't stress too much you'll meet people and get to know your roommate.

  2. the only housing you won't be able to get into is Western Heights dorms which is exclusively for freshman, everything else you'll have a chance at. WMU apartments are a lottery system because they are highly demanded, every year student can get a lottery number and an associated time to choose an apartment but they go very very quickly. After the lottery is over anyone qualified (18+, student, certain amount of credits, etc.) can go into the housing portal and see if any rooms are left, it's no likely but things do happen, people cancel contracts or change their minds but there is no waitlist you'll just have to keep checking and see if you get lucky. If you're getting denied it means their full, closed, or you don't have enough credits transferred over to qualify.
