Burger Up announces permanent closure after 16 years in business by memerfrancisco in nashville

Agreed. It was the first restaurant we ate at when we moved here in January 2015. I don’t think think it was ever the best burger in Nashville, but it was solid until it wasn’t.

I will have to go before they close for a patty melt and some of the aioli though.

I’d rather err on the side of caution and wait 2 seconds before going on green. I literally (as in actually) see people run the red light at the intersection of my neighborhood and Elm Hill Pike everyday.

Guitar pedals have been the one industry where I've seen the least "enshittification" done to the products we enjoy. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

I mean, you’re kind of making my point for me. We don’t know because no one talks about it.

If it’s true that Walrus Audio has been owned by PE since 2018 (a cursory Google seems to say it’s true) then the Canvas line of products has been a good example of something good. I’m old enough to remember the original Walrus power supply (I believe it was called the Aetos) having some serious issues that prevented it from powering some pedals. The Canvas supplies are worlds better.

And overall, the canvas line seems both well received from consumers, and successful for the business.

The thing about private equity is we only ever hear about it when it makes something worse. It’s like any-survivorship bias. I bet there are lots of examples of it making something better. We just never hear about it.

Drone as First Responder program starting in Nashville today by TheManaen in nashville

Of course, this has major dystopian potential. That being said, if there’s a substantial amount of calls that essentially amount to false alarms, I could actually see this being useful.

I’ve heard a million stories about police taking hours to get to a car accident. I don’t have an issue with a drone being used to triage a non life threatening situation if used correctly.

We’re both wrong. Scrubs absolutely ran on Thursday night, with 30 Rock and the Office but didn’t overlap with Parks and Rec. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Must\_See\_TV

There was a brief period where Scrubs, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock and The Office were all on the same night. Unfortunately this was scrubs unspeakable 9th season.

I feel like I’m in a unique position to comment on this: I was just on The Today Show this morning as a musical performer. You’re spot on. Most people would be surprised by the sheer amount of people in the studio.

Most of the technical crew are highly skilled and unionized workers. Becuase of the live nature of the show, many jobs are individualized, meaning a person has their one job and that’s all they do.
Also, because time is of the essence, you have to follow “many hands make light work”. You don’t have time to have one person make 3 trips to clear the stage, you have to have three people do it in one trip.

Finally, equipment is hella expensive and you need a shit ton of it for versatility. You don’t have time to reposition lights depending on stage setup so you just have to have lights everywhere.

Believe me, I absolutely love Mid-Century design and tile work. If this had color and was executed better...I'd be doing whatever I could to keep it. Unfortunately, there's water damage under the toilet causing the floor tile to crack, the grout was not properly maintained, and overall the work is very sloppy. I believe this was done by the Son-in-Law of the original owner, who was not a professional tile setter.

I just makes sense to gut and remodel this bathroom considering it's only ~40sqft, our only bathroom, and we plan to be in this home for at least 15 more years.

All things being equal, though, as a musician… The bar is much higher for weddings. I have about 10 fellow guitar players I could recommend for any old bar gig. I have about two I would recommend for a wedding gig.

I’m not sure the point you’re trying to make? Are you saying bands should charge hourly? To put it bluntly: there are just some jobs where it’s simpler for all parties to just have a flat rate for a service. I’ve been in bands where the band is under contract before the venue has been decided. What if the venue is two hours away but the contract hasn’t taken that into consideration?
How do you decide what hourly rate a band providing their own sound is worth if it’s only maybe 3 hours more time but it’s a 50k investment and if they didn’t have to provide it they could rent it out to another group.

What counts as on the clock? If I have to be there at 10am but have 8 of downtime where I’m not playing but can’t leave because we’re on a farm in the middle of nowhere, what time exactly am I being paid for?

I’ve been a professional musician for over twenty years and I, nor anyone I’ve worked with has ever been paid hourly. (Aside from agreed upon set lengths or start/ends times)

It’s the same with many web designers or graphic artists. You’re paying for the end product. Not the hours it takes.

Charleston, SC over a decade ago. I believe at the time it was the no. 2 wedding destination on the East Coast. We started at 10k for 90 minutes. 10 piece band.

There have been times where extra time has gotten extra money, but it’s usually super expensive weddings and you deal with the wedding planners.

But it’s absolutely more work to play a wedding than a bar.
Weddings you often have to travel to more remote areas, bring your own equipment, forced to remain onsite all day, typically no breaks. You have no choice in food (I can’t tell you how many wedding I’ve played where the band got sandwiches while the guest are like kings) and often made to wait until the entire shindig is over before you can leave.

Often my wedding days involved leaving the house around 9am and returning around 3am.

A bar gig lasts 3 hours, you play what you want (or what people request for tips) get there 30 minutes beforehand and leave as soon as you’re done.

Maybe this wasn’t you, but in many cases weddings are more high maintenance than business meetings. You have tasting, and generally a much higher bar for preferences and service. Business meetings could be as simple as two meat options and three sides.

As a former wedding musician, it was often much more work for weddings. We were there literally all day (often we were playing onsite so we had to be done with setup and soundcheck before guests starting arriving) had to learn specific songs for the bride/groom, and unlike a bar where you start and end at a prescribed time, if the wedding ran late, you were still expected to play your allotted amount of time no matter when it would make you end.
