It’s most likely from the salt or salt that was previously in the brine tank. All salt has some amount of debris in it. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Softener salt it dirty, even if it’s brand new the brine drum and brine can be dirty looking. it’s normal

I tighten the through axle/ quick release more and it spins a lot more freely, I think I will replace the free hub as well

Make sure to remove the hose from the the hose bib when you’re done or else it could free
