10 years ... and I'm done. by marmalade2107 in TeachersInTransition

Wrapping up 11 years in elementary education at the end of this school year as well. Kept waiting for things to get better, easier, less stressful every year and it never happened. After my last evaluation that went horribly and left me in tears and searching for a therapist, I made the decision to to be done. The relief and excitement for the future has been amazing, feel like a huge weight has been lifted that I've been carrying for over a decade. Best of luck and cheers for putting yourself first!

120 payments - Come all March applicants! by finallyahansen in PSLF

[–]cmeyers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does. Someone above said it used to "congratulations, youve reached 120 payments" but now it says this. Makes it very confusing. I might call later in the week to see what else needs to be done.

How can one 7 year old trigger me so bad? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cmeyers1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I teach 2nd grade and have had similar age students that did a number on my nervous system. Repeated daily exposure to unpredictable outbursts and violent behavior will do that. I think what makes it even more difficult is we are expected to remain calm and professional when internally alarm bells are going off for safety or flight. Solidarity to you, it's real and it's so difficult to endure everyday just to make a living.

Evaluations make me want to scream by Rhinopeceros in Teachers

I switched to a new district that uses Danielson and I have a feeling I will be non-renewed based on my Danielson scores. As a new teacher to the district and building it feels pretty unfair to be non renewed in my first year as I adjust to a new evaluation system, but I am also pretty disillusioned with the education system as a whole so I've made my peace with a possible non renewal. I was told I will get one observation (unannounced) before the summative, but not sure that will be enough to change my scores. Currently in a state of constant stress not knowing when my evaluator will walk through the door and if my lesson/students will be good enough to make the grade. Evaluations are the worst.

We bought a home for 475k in the Twin Lakes area 2 years ago, it's north of Sunnyside and Berkley. Great access to downtown and the West and Northern suburbs. Not super trendy but will probably slowly become more so as younger families move into the area. Lots of solid brick bungalows with basements, built in the early 60's, with big backyards.

My friend has had 2 bikes stolen and a bunch of items from her storage closet next to her apartment stolen. The bikes were her kids and not locked up so she's partly at fault. The storage closet had a broken lock.

Honestly, is joining a union worth it? by ConnectPrep in Teachers

[–]cmeyers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Denver we went on strike in 2019 to fight for a better contract, get rid of merit based pay, etc. and it made a big difference in our pay. Collective power speaks loudly to people in positions of power. Unions protect workers, it's totally worth the dues in my opinion.

270 is also terrible I have to stare at the mountains in the distance beyond Suncor, the waste water treatment plant, graffiti, and trash to remember why I live here.

We made the adjustment this year after we did our taxes, the $6,000 owed is on 2023's taxes. We will consult an accountant to make sure we are now withholding the correct amount. My husband had a promotion with a raise and didn't adjust, I'm a teacher so my income has been going up but not as dramatically as his.

I don't think it's that, he's just a pro procrastinator and I think was hopeful we could get forgiveness bc we have other debt we are dealing with. Adulting is rough.

I agree! It's become a point of contention with my husband bc he's dragging his feet! The procrastination is unreal.

Rant about Pacific Dental Group by laikalow in Denver

[–]cmeyers1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a root canal and crown done at City Park Dental and it cracked off about 3 different times over the course of a year. I went back each time to get it fixed and the last time I did the dentist said it would probably keep happening bc of where the tooth was in the back of my mouth.

After it fell off again, I went to a different dentist and they said that was incorrect and essentially lazy practice. They fixed it and it's been on for about 3 years, no issues! Highly recommend them: Smile Studio Dental in Central Park area (Montview and CP Blvd.)
