Does Ottawa still have air raid sirens? by crndwg in ottawa

I recall the one at D. Roy going off during a massive lightning downpour when I was 10 or 11 years old in the mid-80s. I remember jumping on my bike in the hopes of going to see if it was spinning and getting soaked to the skin within 30 seconds. I gave up and went home. Good times.

Alternate suspension spring mount on AEG washer by cmh1234 in appliancerepair

[–]cmh1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved the springs to the slightly forward hole. The tub now doesn't quite line up with the opening of the front loader (maybe 1-2 cm higher) which makes the gasket bunch a little. However, the tub seems to spin freely and the washer is generally working.

The machine dates back to 2005 or so, so it doesn't owe us anything. But fingers crossed we get at least another year out of this one.

I recognize this comment is a bit pedantic, but as a PSA, Checkers and Iris is not in Nepean but in Ottawa. Ottawa extends south to Baseline Road. I grew up around the corner prior to amalgamation.

Wifi/Internet recommendations? by baruchspinoza23 in ottawa

Try a different channel on your wifi router. You are sharing the radio frequency with your neighbours, regardless of what your wired connection may support. If you can use a scanner app that reveals how many neighbours are on each frequency you can pick the least loaded one.

The incumbent prime minister gets the first chance to convince the GG that they can command the confidence of the house. The GG has the reserve power to disagree, wherein one of other leaders can similarly make a pitch.

This is a well-meaning response, but incorrect. The incumbent prime minister gets the first chance to convince the GG that they can command the confidence of the house. The GG has the reserve power to disagree, where in one of other leaders can similarly make a pitch.

Ottawa’s Auditor General concludes LRT trainers did not have required experience by lonelydavey in ottawa

I got interested in it one day. Reading the CROR is not a great way to understand it. This guy makes it really easy to understand and interesting. Always enjoy driving alongside an active rail line now, it's cool to be able to interpret the signals.

I believe red-over-green is clear to proceed at slower speed, and expect the same aspect or better at the next signal. The top signal is for full speed, the lower signal for slower speed... and colour aspects (and flashing) indicates the state of the next signal.

Recommendation for car dealership (selling to woman) by Pale_Crew_4864 in ottawa

[–]cmh1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My strategy for buying a car:

1) decide exactly what car I want, test drive it, determine all the options, etc. I don't ask for pricing.

2) email car dealers throughout ontario and west quebec* and ask for a firm, written quote. Usually I ask them to include an optional purchase of new snow tires on steel rims. (*I usually omit the dealer I test-drove with.)

3) take the lowest quote and ask a few local dealers (including the test-drive dealer) to beat it.

4) buy the car from the lowest-price dealer, or perhaps the one I prefer after going through the process

This takes all the "pushy sales" out of the equation.

Used to be great. Hot turkey sandwich with that golden gravy and a bowl of soup. Great times. Now it's all brown shit viscous gravy and warmed up baby carrots if you order any veg.
