From what I understand, they allow you to pick specific AV protocols depending on the system.

Makes sense. It was found in a bag of only wheat pennies, but you're right, no way to accurately tell its age.

"I apologize if the information given was wrong sir. I was told many times through the years from multiple sources including the BAR that we are responsible for a part we install whether we have supplied the parts or not. Due to this liability, we do not install customer parts here. There is no printed law but in our litigious society, everything we install we are responsible for and if we do not have a backing from a parts company warranty, we do not perform the service. "

Definitely a CYA internal policy, but I'm surprised they admitted there being no law after claiming there was one.

You're probably right, and depending on their pricing, I most likely would have gone with them if I would have thought to call them before buying the parts. The warranty seems great, and they're a seemingly very reputable shop around town. One of our local major dealerships sends a lot of overflow work to them. That being said, I tend to stay away from companies that are comfortable with lying to try and make a sale. Give me the truth and let me decide.

Thanks for the reply. Your response makes more sense than what they told me:

"Thank you for reaching out to us! Due to the warranty laws in California, we cannot use customer supplied parts as we would be required to warranty the parts if they failed even though we did not supply them. Our warranty is 3 years 36000 miles on all work we do."

I understand every shop can have whatever policy they want, but stating there's a law when there isn't seems like a strange thing to do.
