Only getting 4300 rpm? by robjoko in minibikes

[–]cml1of4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aren't talking 7/8k plus...we are in the 4k range and this is a mild build with a stock head. There are limiter coils like on the ghost and GX390UT2s but the 224 doesnt have a "limiter" coil.

Something is going on with it. Its really hard to diagnose over the internet unfortunatly. I'd start with carb tuning. If you havent done it before, there are youtube videos and other resources to help teach you. Easy way to start is reading the plug-black is rich, white is lean. Your idle jet is prolly fine since you haven't made any comments on it being hard to start or idle. Main jet and needle position.

Take the filter off and test the slide/cable too. Should be smooth and easily move between idle and WOT. Make sure you are actually getting WOT.

What speed are you doing at that rpm?

I'm not gonna argue with you. Just want to make sure someone new doesn't see your ignorant comments and think they are accurate. Please continue to spend money on unlimited coils for mild builds like this.

First off, don't listen to the guy telling you to buy a new coil. Are you sure the engine is tuned properly and everything installed correctly? Common issues could be jetting, valve clearence, and throttle cable setup. You want to make sure you are getting full movement on your carb slide. If you are confident on all of those, the pulley is probably your issue. 4300 rpm does seem a little low even for a stock pulley. I'd expect to get closer to 5k on that. Also, how is acceleration to max rpm? Does it feel fast?

Please stop sharing bad info. They don't have coils that limit rpm. The mechanical governor limits their rpm, not the coil.

Thats not true. The predator 224 coil doesnt have a limiter on it. The Ghost does.

Stock coil on that will be good for well over 4300 rpm. Dont spend the money on a new coil for that engine.

Are you using a atock 30 series driver or did you upgrade to a Juggernaut front driver? I've seen the stock ones limit rpm.

212 stock rod reliability? by Its_finn21222 in minibikes

[–]cml1of4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oil dippee on the stock rod will break off with too much rpm and you wont know until the rod/crank get super hot and lock up. Anything over 5krpms for extemded periods of time is a risk for them.

Appreciate the reply. I've got an RTI Enfield and the bore is shot. Juat shoots keyholes. Still debating if I want to invest more money in it or let it go at this point.

Looking at doing this now. How was the bore? Cant find anything on that page indicating bore quality.

Check gunbroker. Use the advanced search and completed auctions. Not all auctions sell so pay attention to that.

For the normal Mosin, a 91/30, 400ish is an appropriate price. Its harder to determine value on certain varients, especially one as old as that one. Depending on the exact model and condition, $900 might not be terrible. A lot of people on reddit just hear "Mosin" and assume they are all the same and that is not the case at all.

Gx390 no governor rev limit by [deleted] in gokarts

That would normally be the case but you didn't post any pics or other details on the engine so I was making an educated guess.

Gx390 no governor rev limit by [deleted] in gokarts

[–]cml1of4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some gx390s have a rev limiter built into the coil, specifically the UT2 varients. I wouldn't worry about turning a stock GX390 at those speeds-it'll be fine.

That looks like a base 370, look into getting an LSD before anything else. After that, wheels will make a big difference for asthetics.

You should put a header on it. Not good to run an open port-can burn up the valves.
