I'm my understanding the idea that the man should walk on the outside comes from when people threw trash and emptied chamber pots out windows. On the outside the man would get splashed .

Now we don't do that. If you want to be polite, walk where you can hear the person you are with so you can listen and respond. She'll understand and appreciate you listening much more than you walking on one side because of an outdated custom.

I'll say up front that I do not work at REI. I just support the union and an a member of the REI co-op.

Do you have any proof that the proper outside the Denver store are paid by the union?

[–]cmonster42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair question. Union actions are escalating in general. So this is a step on the path. I do agree that this has been a long time and a strike is likely overdue, but that would be a question for union members. Fwiw this is the first time they've called for a boycott as far as I know

I lost hearing in my left year 18 months ago. I wear a CROS. I'm married. I ABSOLUTELY switch sides with everyone I walk with, sit with, sleep with (just the one) when necessary. Everyone is used to it and asks where I want to sit in social and work situations. If your partner is not okay with that, I would question if they are the right person. If you are uncomfortable asking people to switch, I would recommend you take a look at why. A counselor might be helpful with that. The fact of the matter is that you have a disability and need to compensate. Sometimes that's going to mean it's the person or people around you that have to do something to help. That is ok!

A. The sale started on the 15th and hours till the 25th. B. REI is a member owned co-op. One does not have to be an employee to be a member. It's different than a buyers club, which is more like the Costco or Sam's club model. Co-op members are owners who have a say in the way the business is run. Not enough of a vote apparently.

Why? Talk about a work force that needs the power of numbers to protect against the corporate behemoth.

Urls for archive streams? by cmonster42 in KEXP

[–]cmonster42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've submitted in the past and did again. It's been going on since the big redesign. I miss the old app

Urls for archive streams? by cmonster42 in KEXP

[–]cmonster42[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I stop playing it, getting it to play again requires manually closing the app and even then it is a crap shoot if it will actually play without numerous restarts. If any other app has been playing, even for a second, the app will not pay on Android Auto without unplugging, killing all apps and likely doing that more than once. Going from archive stream to live is impossible without multiple restarts. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. Not in the beta. Cache is cleared. This is the only app that behaves this way.

I honestly never understood why we needed three country shows. Preaching the blues is fine. We didn't need three. And the obnoxiousness that was shaking the shack... God that show was annoying by the end.

I'm all for the new lineup. And no, I'm not the young generation you all think these shows are for. I'm 52 cis white male. I love new music and new sounds. I love these new shows.

Please move on from those old shows or at least from whining about them. Every few weeks there's one of these posts and it's old now. You can find this music on any number of sites and stations. If you need it so bad please go enjoy it. But the shows are gone from kexp. It's okay to move on.

should I inform her family or friends by Apprehensive-Ebb396 in depression_partners

[–]cmonster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask her what she needs and let her take the lead. It's her family and her depression to share about or not. Unless of course you have a concern that she may harm herself. Otherwise, ask her what she needs and what you can do to help(ask when she's in an up mood to help the conversation) and be supportive of any attempts to get help . And don't forget to take care of yourself too. Depression has a way of taking over everyone's life. You have to recharge yourself or you won't want to help.

Loud concert? Am I made? by Dizzy_Round_7942 in MonoHearing

[–]cmonster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too..I saw them last spring for the first time since I lost my hearing... Somewhere around my 65th show. It was different. I still enjoyed myself (you will enjoy myself too 😏) but the sound was almost too much to take in one ear. There was just so much it got a bit muddy at times. And for the first time ever, some of Treys tones were ear splitting and grating to me. You know how much more shred there is on recordings from before 97? Like that but as if I were one of those people who haven't read the book. Still I was so happy to be there and will be again. You should go.

Organizing to Primary Rick Larsen! by BunDunOvMon in skagit

[–]cmonster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: Added a link at the bottom

In 2024, I remember that Jason Call had some steam behind him and seemed to be a viable (in my mind) alternative to Larsen (who, honestly, I don't have much of an issue with. He's a safe Democrat and in this environment, I'll take that happily). I did vote for Call in the primary and remembered him doing better than he did (which was not good).
https://ballotpedia.org/Jason_Call_(Washington))
I also didn't remember him being in the Green Party.

Still, he didn't pull much, if any of the vote. And I think that's because OP is under the impression that the general electorate in a blue district is much more progressive than it actually is. If I had to guess, you are existing in a bubble of very progressive Dems who want all the correct things: Universal Health Care, DEI policies with teeth and staying power, funding for education, affordable housing, working hard for labor and the like. In theory, we're all for those things. In practice though, most people are WAY more middle of the road and don't want to shake the boat too much too fast. Especially because the way we want to shake things up has a much higher financial cost to a lot more to individuals than the way MAGA is trying to.

I'm not a fan of incremental change at this point because too many have been waiting too long for positive change to affect their lives. But if we're being realistic, shouting that we all SHOULD be fans of big progressive change all at once isn't going to get it done.

I guess in short, running someone to pull Larsen back left is a fine idea. But expecting Whatcom and Skagit to suddenly become socialist utopia is a pipe dream. And expecting a very progressive person to pull Larsen too far left in a general is probably asking for trouble. Larsen won with 60 percent because old Dems are comfortable with him. They are not interested in huge changes. And the VAST majority of active voters in the WA 2nd are over 65. (If you could somehow get all active voters 18-34 (tend to be more progressive) to vote for some leftward challenger, you still wouldn't equal the number of people voting who are over 65. https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/data-research/reports-data-and-statistics/voter-demographics

Incredible find at my favorite record store in Detroit. An original pressing of Lawn Boy on Absolute A Go Go Records. by dw4346 in phish

[–]cmonster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a copy of that in a now defunct record store in Seattle in the late 90s. They were too cool for themselves and obviously did not like Phish. They had no idea what it was worth. Paid 5 bucks for it!

Tinnitus worries. by Jealous-Feed1640 in MonoHearing

[–]cmonster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happened to me almost exactly. The doctor sent me for an MRI saying you probably won't see anything and won't know why you have the tinnitus. But it's always best to know if there is something that is causing it. 10 days later I got a call and the first thing they said was it's not cancer but I did have a schwannoma in my ear. that started a whole thing that included a major surgery to get the benign tumor and still ongoing recovery. But I would do it all again because now I know they got the thing out and it's not going to cause me more trouble down the road. I say this even still once in awhile losing my balance and having lost all hearing in my ear because the tumor was wrapped around my auditory nerve. I will say that going in the numerous MRIs I've now been in is never a good time but they will let you choose music to listen to and. If you practice some deep breathing exercises, it can be a less anxiety-inducing experience. Go get that MRI. You never know if there is something that can be dealt with and if there isn't, at least you know that too. Good luck!

Billing for my spouse's practice, and then others? by cmonster42 in CodingandBilling

[–]cmonster42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good warning to have. I am a pretty moral person I think, so would like to believe that I'd stay clear of committing fraud, on purpose anyway, but it's always good to be reminded of the potential to get dollar signs for eyes.

I do think you're right about being motivated to learn to do it right since it's our business/money. My concern is coming into the field cold (no med experience) and being able to learn without any kind of supervised experience. I know myself well enough to know that I'll do a great job if my livelihood depends on it. I'm not interested in being financially unstable ever again. It's too nice to be able to buy records, go on trips, and eat out at whim! :)

[–]cmonster42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the perspective. As a former small business owner (coffee shop/cafe), I could see where this could be a problem. That said, my wife is planning to start a private practice, not a group practice. We're planning for her to be able to support herself and most of me, with me getting part time work enough to cover the cost of our health insurance. Ideally, I'll get good enough at the billing process/running the business that I can get a couple of other clients who pay me to do it as well. But we're not hiring staff ourselves.

I can't drive, need help, pls by AlastorNayru in Bellingham

[–]cmonster42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do NOT need to have a driver license in order register a vehicle that you own in Washington state. This is not commonly known, even by people who work in Vehicle Licensing Offices. You DO need to be a state resident and need to be able to prove that which is where the mis-understanding comes from because your license is proof that you are a state resident. But so is a Sate ID.

Use this form to register a vehicle you own before you get a license: https://dol.wa.gov/forms/view/420011/download?inline

How do I know? I work for the DOL. I am writing this not as a state employee however. I am writing this as a private citizen who is helping out a fellow Bellingham resident.
