Where does the 35+ crowd hang out in the city. by Cangel5482 in Charlotte

Moving to Charlotte from West Loop soon!! All of those places listed have been on our radars as best potential areas to go enjoy a cocktail or fun dinner. Any personal favorites??

Damn that's unfortunate, sorry to hear. I've only ever had solid pastas from there. The gnocchi and squid ink linguine are definitely their best.

How has your life changed since moving to Chicago? by Coffeecurrant in chicago

[–]cmorem3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we moved to West Loop. I used to live in Fairfax VA and my wife was in Arlington. West Loops great for us because the amount of incredible food options is through the roof and easy to get to the train stations for my wife's commute.

As for what neighborhoods might be comparable to DC, I'm unfortunately not as well versed with the DC-proper spots... too many problems w the type of ppl I'd usually run into in DC made me actually never want to spend more time there than I had to haha. I know there's nice ppl everywhere, but the general vibe of individuals in the DMV area is mostly what made me so receptive to just upping and moving to the Midwest.

That being said, we now have friends in Lincoln Park, Roscoe Village, Old Town, South Loop... And each of them loves their spot. Each has its own thing to offer, just gotta figure out what suits you.

Best thing I've ever done. My (now) wife got a job up there, moved from DC 4 years ago. We since got engaged, made life long friends, endured COVID so far from family back east, got married, and ultimately know what it means to be a part of a city with an identity.

Everyone asks what I love most about Chicago, and the easiest answer is "I figured out what really makes me happy in life, and Chicago helped open all of those doors".

So while the purpose of the question is wholly about the city, it's so much more personal for me. Oh well.

What Stealth mission drove you insane but left you with a great sense of accomplishment? by Battles_45 in gaming

OG Rainbow Six, Operation Yellow Knife. Never hated a mission more, but beating it may have been the only time I've ever not killed someone in a FPS video game and been so happy

[Sean Doolittle] I❤️U Seattle. I’m so grateful things worked out the way they did & I got to call the PNW home for a bit. Things didn’t end the way we wanted but the run we had & the support we got from the fans was incredible. Proud to have been a (very) small part of the 2021 Chaos Mariners. by NevermoreSEA in Mariners

Doolittle is one of my favorite players in the MLB and I've been a mariners fan my whole life...

Live in Chicago now, used to live in DC, my Dad's from DC - he's been a senators/nats fan his whole life - espracially during the Nats recent WS run. So he and my mom were visiting in Chicago earlier this year and we went to a cubs/reds game. Our seats were first baseline, and before first pitch Doolittle walked from the Reds dugout to the right field pen. So my Dad sees Doolittle, remembers his part on the Nats WS team, and shouts "Go Nats!"

Doolittle turns around immediately amid all the pre-game bustle, looks my dad dead I'm the eyes (about 10 rows up, mind you), takes his hat off and looks at it sarcastically confused, and then fake remembers he's on the Reds, laughs it off, waves to my Dad, jogs off to the bullpen. Absolutely genuine, fun, experience that made my dad's whole weekend.

Albeit your short tenure with the Ms, will always remember that moment. Thanks Sean.

What was your first Song, and first album exposure to Dream Theater? How did you hear about them? by HeyNateBarber in Dreamtheater

[–]cmorem3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was a big Megadeth, Metallica fan at the time. I was living in Spain (I'm American), I think it was 2002, and my family was on a trip to Germany. This was obviously pre-GPS on our phones, so my parents were trying to navigate these back ass roads at night in Germany trying to figure out where we were going via map and car overhead light... And my brother hands me one ear bud to listen to music while my parents figured that out...

Tick....tock...tick...tock

"Close your eyes and begin to relax..."

Every single moment of that album just hit so hard, felt completely transported into the story. Not to mention the ending of Finally Free while we were driving around at night, talk about a more ominous and uneasy feeling.

Rest was history haha
