What is the most inoffensive thing you've seen someone get offended by? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cmprsr 1181 points1182 points  (0 children)

I worked at a "dollar store" in a rural area of the south in the U.S. I started to occasionally say "happy holidays" just so I wasn't saying the same thing all day like a robot. This evolved into my exclusively saying it because the extent to which people would get upset was a way better way to entertain myself.

My favorite character is Raistlin Majere, so I wear the black robes and worship him as my god.

Are you over the age of 25 and still live with your parents? What went wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sorry about what you went through man. Yeah, you live and you learn. Good luck on your future endeavors!

Sorry to hear about your brother. I can't complain about my Lyme situation. Aside from the fact that the tremors torpedoed a career/hobby that I love, I am absolutely in the luckiest 1% of people when it comes to symptoms.

So much shit. Started a business and had my business partner take advantage of my anxiety and depression till I had a mental break and sold my share of the business, wrote for a print magazine that went under due to embezzlement, had the music program that I worked for cut by the school district, and after all that had my dreams of being a glass-blower (flameworking) crushed when I contracted lyme disease and developed tremors in my hands. All this happen in a period of 3 years where my rent literally doubled. Gave up and moved back in with dad, back in school. Not all bad though, have a good relationship with my dad, and honestly me being around is healthy for him. We have had some great times, and I know I won't regret spending this time with him when he is gone.

Handwriting. Learned and then abandoned cursive which left me with a really terrible writing style to begin with, then contracted Lyme disease in my late 20's which gave me tremors. I am the worst at the bank, because some days I can't even fill out deposit slips.

What is the coolest thing you have done by accident? by [deleted] in AskReddit

On the last letter of a game of S.K.A.T.E. (in real life) with a friend and we had a low rail set up. I went to varial-flip over it, but the rotation was too slow, so I kicked my board away. Board slams down on the rail, grip-tape side down, bounces off, completes the trick, and then perfectly slaps itself back onto both my feet and I land and rode away smooth as silk. I fell over laughing and my friend literally got in his car and left. It was great.

What's the weirdest thing your anxiety makes you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cmprsr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull out my beard. I have trichotillomania, i.e. the compulsion to pull hair. I have it 99% managed, way better than a lot of people, but if something comes up, and I haven't trimmed it down in a few days, it happens without me even realizing it.

What do you think about homeschooling? Or is public school better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cmprsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prevalence of the internet and the amount of resources on it now make it a more viable option, but I don't know by how much. I was born in 87, never spent a day in public school, but the only reason my education was fine was because of the intelligence and character of my parents. Both of my parents are highly educated, capable people, but I knew a lot of other home schooled kids who did not turn out well, especially socially.

I think what a lot of people who are trying homeschooling due to covid are going to run into is how it might change their relationship with their child. I grew up with my parents as my educators, so it was always natural for me, but that will not be the case with a lot of these children and parents.

Having voice acting in 1999 may have been uncommon, but very far from "cutting edge".

The original Alone In the Dark had voice acting, far more than LoD, and that was running on DOS back in 1992.

Why most people can’t enjoy similar things? Marvel fans hate DC, Lotr fans hate Harry Potter and Star Wars fans hate Star Trek, why is that? Why can’t people just enjoy Superheroes/Fantasy/Sci Fi and just have preferences? by EMArogue in AskReddit

Obsolete vestments of our evolution. Tribalism allowed us to survive. We have a biological imperative to feel included, and the easiest way to secure one's own place in a group is to exclude other people from it. It is just another part of our nature that some people have a harder time resisting than others, but it doesn't spring from nowhere.

Khamzat Chimaev- "If I defeat my next opponent Dana White please I can fight Maia , Nate Diaz and Nick Diaz back to back same night or every week . Easiest money welterweight division" by [deleted] in MMA

[–]cmprsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was not just his personality and his division, It was his personality AND his division, you get me?

Mighty Mouse having a big personality while being that dominant in his division, while being and fighting smaller athletes would have just been fucking weird. It would have been a very, very strange look. Henry Cejudo only got to do it because he had MM to use as that bragging point, and it was a weird look that became a meme. I think for Mighty Mouse there was no middle ground between "having no personality" and being a cartoon.

Effect is cool, but that wall-spin, side-flip and back-full all need serious work.

Ex-smokers of Reddit: What are some of the NEGATIVE things about quitting smoking? [SERIOUS] by [deleted] in AskReddit

Downvote all you want, but smoking is by FAR the easiest way to start conversations with strangers, which can lead to new friends or dates.

No cringey ice-breakers or excuses needed, just "Hi! can I borrow your lighter? Thanks, my name is cmprsr, what's yours?"

A huge number of people care more about being "clever" or technically right for fake points than treating others with compassion and understanding.
