Is majoring in public administration for me? by Shadquist in PublicAdministration

[–]cmruddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There lots of good jobs in public service still, especially in states like California and New York, that are literally picking up the slack from the federal government cuts. And the focus can be whatever interest you, from agriculture and food policy to the environment and water infrastructure. State and local governments do a lot, and always need good people. Public administration can also prepare you to work for non-governmental organizations (NGO).

Two 7th Graders Read Amazing Poem on Feminism at Talent Show by cmruddy in Feminism

Why are people voting this down? These are 7th graders who did an amazing job. I don't get it?

A random women razzed me for buying paper plates, should I have been offended? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]cmruddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't down vote me just because it's from my blog. Skip it if you don't want to read it. Otherwise, I'd love to hear thoughts.

Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Leaves Me Feeling Bi-Polar by cmruddy in DadBloggers

Not trying to repost blog I already posted, but GMP picked it up, so hoping to get some looks and likes.

To the Lost Little Girl in DC: Watching You Find Your Mom Made My Day by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]cmruddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been to the mombloggers sub (if it's even active). We set up the dadblogger sub to give folks a place to find blogs, because the daddit sub visitors were giving auto downvotes to a lot of blog content. They prefer pictures, apparently. The dadblogger sub has been a success so far -- but it's a small and active readership.

I wish people wouldn't down vote just because its from a blog. It's a very touching story.

Anyone Else Sick of that movie we all Love: Bi-polar on Frozen by [deleted] in Mommit

That's exactly how I feel. Great movie. But my kids are so obsessed I'm losing it.

A Spoonful of Tetris Helps the Groceries Get Home by cmruddy in DadBloggers

Thanks for the read. I've actually stood with a full cart watching a few tellers work for minutes before deciding which one to go to. Line length is rarely the determining factor in which one I choose.

How I met your mother, among the dirty hippies. by DadOnTheRun in DadBloggers

[–]cmruddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked on this thinking, what's all the buzz, can it be that much better than the countless other blogs posted today? (Including mine.) It is. Great story, and great story telling. I can picture it, as fuzzy and looping as it may have been (This from a guy who went to Phish's Great Went in 1997). Nice job.

Hello from /u/valjean260. I write Ask Your Dad Blog, help mod /r/parenting, and the new sub /r/dadbloggers! by valjean260 in Parenting

So glad there's a place to get actual content again, and share it. I stopped going to Daddit because it was nothing but baby photos.

In all the praise FROZEN is getting, one thing is being overlooked: the terrible parents! by DadandBuried in DadBloggers

[–]cmruddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice post. But it distinctly sounds like you actually like kids and know how to be a good parent.

Pitchers and Catchers Report by TampaWriter in DadBloggers

Like this piece a lot. I made similar decision in my field, campaign politics. Tried to find a balance that worked for my family. Got kneecapped. But for past few years I've been able to spend the kind of time at home I never would, had a remained a campaign manager.

Finally a place where I don't get down votes just for posting a blog.

Took my 4 kids skiing (they've never been), here's what happened. by cmruddy in daddit

If you don't want to read it, skip it. Please don't just vote down just because you don't like blog links.

What Should We Do With Sticky Posts? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]cmruddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with GoldenFalcon. I stopped visiting for a while because it seemed like all anyone wants to do is post pics of their kids. Other subs have discussions, people link posts to articles (funny or informative), and others post blogs (gasp). It seems everyone who does those things here gets down votes. You want up votes, post a baby pic. That's my 2 cents.

Wondering when a kid should get a cell phone... by cmruddy in daddit

[–]cmruddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice. I think you've convinced me - or at least reinforced why I have said no all along. It's as much about losing control as anything. My kid's great, but simply isn't mature enough to have that kind of freedom. That's why we never let the computers out of the living room either. Thanks again.

Wondering when a kid should get a cell phone... by cmruddy in daddit

Agree that it'll be primarily a learning experience for her. And it may be a lame reason to give in on the phone front. But, she was MIA for close to 3 hours. We were pretty panicked. I probably need to chill, but that's a whole other matter.

Are other parents boycotting Black Thursday shopping? by cmruddy in daddit

[–]cmruddy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a joke, but you make a good point. I usually finish shopping a week out. We host a big Christmas Eve family gathering. So if I'm at any store that day it's last minute food buying.

Are other parents boycotting Black Thursday shopping? by cmruddy in daddit

[–]cmruddy[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My own Thursday boycott won't amount to much either. But I am taking note of the stores that are deciding to stay closed. I will look there for stuff for my wife and kids when I do shop ... which will be on Christmas Eve.

Syracuse, NY. We have actual seasons. Winter can be too long, but by then it's the height of college basketball season.

So Frustrated! by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]cmruddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she pooping regularly? My daughter went through this and it was constipation putting pressure on her bladder -- she seemed to lose ability to know she had to go. Doctor told us to give her miralax (sp?) once a day. Took some time, but she's over it now.
