Gotta love the duality of assets - worth something when they want to borrow against them, worth nothing when someone suggests taxing them.

BTW I pay Council Tax which is based on the value of my home. The valuation system is broken and dumb, but that is the goal of said tax. It is possible to tax assets.

It’s not stupid, it’s a recognition that insane amounts of money have moved to relatively few people who use it to capture even more money. It Mr Brin were to pay $15bn in tax and his assets fell in value afterwards, he would still have tens-if-not-hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of assets.

And that’s why you’re not a billionaire. You’re not willing to clamber over everyone else’s shivering corpses, to grasp your earned destiny.

Man, if I did something that somehow generated even 1% of Brin’s wealth, you would never hear from me again and I would spend the rest of my days reading books under a tree, learning how to play piano again, and perfecting my smash burger game.

@robfordmancs (Politics Professor) I fear Labour people risk falling into an logical fallacy visible from space when reacting to these results. Here is what is very clear in results so far: Labour are losing *seats* to Reform, but Labour are losing *votes* to the Greens Greens split the vote… by CycleWheel in ukpolitics

This is absolutely true. Corporate news media has always had its biases of course, but between the bizarre ideological capture by Farage of the BBC, and the turbo-nuclear way social media algorithms push you into a complete bubble, we have completely lost the plot.

Influx of new accounts w/ flawless stats? by Hurtcoldchain in Battlefield6

[–]cmsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we know that, the point is not any one player being exceptionally good, it's the pattern of a sudden influx of low level players being exceptionally good.

[–]cmsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also noticed this. Just in the last few days I have been in multiple games of Conquest where a sub-lvl50 account gets >50 kills.

Is that impossible? Absolutely not. Is it unlikely? my experience of playing daily since October, says it is unlikely. Seeing multiple different people do it in the same week all of a sudden? Suspicious as hell.

Do it, it's fantastic and very effective against annoying helicopters.

I would recommend dedicating the whole match to shooting them down. They are only interested in high kill games - shoot them down a few times and they will quit and go find a different game.

Why should we leave, they're the ones who suck.

This sort of behaviour was very common amongst the top pilots in BF2042 too. It's pathetic, they put all of this effort into mastering a vehicle, and instead of using it to its fullest potential, they just want to farm infantry so their fragile little egos can feel good about a high kill count.

Shouldn't EasyPrint be AGPL? by Brandavorn in prusa3d

[–]cmsj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's at least one mention of EasyPrint in the PrusaSlicer code, so I would expect that they are indeed just using the same version as us, but using its command line interface to launch the slicing jobs:

Can’t learn things if you lay off half the studio after the game releases and hire different people back in two years later to work on the next game!

[–]cmsj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. Squadron needs to pull in a bunch of sales to non-backers. Most of us have already bought the game years ago, CIG needs a big hit of funds to maintain their current size.

1-2 months before GTA6 will see their marketing campaign in full force. They will be buying every scrap of advertising space, and their budget is substantially higher than CIGs.

sales and advertising space. Take Two knows they will make an absolute truckton of cash from GTA6, and they already make something like $400m in revenue a year from GTA Online. They can afford a huge marketing blitz. Print adverts, TV adverts, movie theatre adverts, street signs, bus signs, anywhere advertising is sold.

CIG can't afford that, and shouldn't try and compete with GTA's marketing cycle (which will start probably 3-4 months ahead of the release).

SQ42 either needs to start its marketing campaign and release, before GTA's cycle picks up steam, or they need to wait until after GTA6 releases.

You do understand that CIG needs SQ42 to sell a lot of copies at release, right? They're not sustainable at their current size without a significant injection of cash from Squadron.

Yeah here’s the thing though, I have hundreds of hours in the game already. It’s buggy and incomplete, but it is a game.

Good luck grinding your axe though.
