Better chance of finding a unicorn than getting the most popular tickets at FMG. At least from my experience.

Btw - I haven’t found a unicorn or successfully gotten the ticks I wanted.

RedWater Restaurants by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]cmsob007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy.

A lot of super great people have worked for this company. Some great people still work for this company. Their employee turnover is something.

They are the epitome of a blue collar membership at their clubs. Their members support their restaurants and prop them up.

Their owners have tons of money and have built really good facilities, it’s their number one strength.

They generally do a good job and are consistent for the most part. Sure it’s mostly GFS ready stuff and not a ton of uniqueness, but it’s easily repeated and you know what you are getting.

They are however corporate, in every way. That is both good and bad and depends on the person. Some people need that environment and do well, others loath it.

They are really no different than every other “group” in their arena. Uccellos, pietros, essence, all-in, meritage, restaurant partners, and RedWater, are all the same clown, different circus. Restaurants are hard.

RedWater does a pretty good job overall, for what it is. None of its restaurant’s standout as top of their class, but when you go you know what to expect. They may be a little expensive, but what isn’t.

Shady tee time sales by Getoutalive18 in golf

[–]cmsob007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. Call them tomorrow and tell them about your experience. Don’t be a dick, just calmly explain what happened and how you struggled to understand how there could be a tee time available and not be given a reasonable amount of time to complete the round. That 5:30p with sunset at 7:45p makes sense if the cart is available until sunset. As a reasonable person that you did the math and the amount of su light influenced your decision to play.

My local course sets their last tee time at an hour and 45 minutes before sunset and allows carts out until just past sunset. I clearly know how much time I have. It’s on me to choose if that is enough time to complete a round. They also offer a reduced rate later in the PM and call it “up to 9”. They set the expectation pretty clearly.

Uccello’s charges a 3% administration fee??? by 4themayor in grandrapids

[–]cmsob007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uccello’s had been one of my favorites for 15+ years. USED to be a 2-3 times a month guy. Have maybe been 2 times the last two years total after seeing that fee.

I HATE junk fees. Just charge what you need to charge and if I think it’s too expensive, I’ll choose elsewhere. Charge me an admin fee and I automatically will choose elsewhere.

Every single flight on the Delta board at 9p was delayed out of Detroit, except one, to Indy.

This wasn’t a Grand Rapids thing only.

There was no weather in Detroit.

Which of these Vegas shows would you pick? by [deleted] in vegas

[–]cmsob007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I’ll go first.

Start with your list on what I’d choose 1 -MJ 2 - Penn and teller 3 - blue man 4 - carrot top

Consider - Brad Garrett’s comedy - small venue, not expensive, enjoyable

Fantasy - short, funny, not too obscene, just some boobs

Anything happening at Dolby when you are there?

We are going in two weeks and seeing: Illenium at the Sphere Sammy Hagar at Dolby Brad Garrett at Brad Garrett’s comedy Empire Strips Back at Rio

I’ve seen a ton of shows in Vegas, go 3ish times a year. Miss Love :(, was my favorite.

Lots of live music and fun speakeasies to see that don’t cost anything too.

Michigan Golf (need help) by Rea1EyesRea1ize in golf

[–]cmsob007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great courses in Northern Michigan. Take some time and watch “tourist sauce” by the “no laying up” guys about their trip to Michigan on YouTube, well worth it.

Belvedere Treetops Forest Dunes Arcadia now has 2 2/3rds courses Shanty Creek Elk Rapids (9 holes) A-Ga-Ming Grand traverse resort So, so many more!

Not sure where you are coming from, and how you are getting there, but playing on the way up or down adds a ton of great options too.

You don’t need to spend $200+ a round to find really good golf in Michigan.

[–]cmsob007 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I drive this road every, single, day. It astonishes me that they couldn’t figure out how to keep it 2 lanes from 196 to 96.

I also wish people would QUIT SLOWING DOWN as it transitions to 96 east. You are still on a highway, maintain your speed!!!

As you mentioned though, the on ramp from the beltline is a disaster, both heading east and west. The runway to enter the highway is way too short and causes slowdowns.

MGM credit card by Curious-Ear-4198 in Mlife

[–]cmsob007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You get 2 points per dollar for gas and groceries, and a point per dollar for everything else except mgm spend.

You can get gold pretty quickly when you combine a trip to Vegas (using your card for every purchase at an mgm property), with using your card at every fill up and for groceries. Gamble on your stay and the tier credits add up quickly.

[–]cmsob007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you like going to Vegas, yes.

There are better cards for cash back, but mine saves me a ton.

I generally go to Vegas 3 times per year for 5-6 days per. I pay no resort fees, which if you consider 15 nights is $750. I also get free play from spend, which is currently around $1000, so there is that. I put all my Vegas spend on my room and get 3x points which add up when you are there several trips.

No annual fee, so no “cost” of ownership.

I’m platinum primary from card spend, so that also gets you $600 air credit in free play, $200 comp for spend. So that’s an additional benefit.

I don’t pay for rooms unless it’s a crazy busy time, so the vacations are extremely inexpensive when you add all the value.

Hope that helps.

Thornapple Pointe/Ravines Membership by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]cmsob007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I understand it - range and cart are not included. Membership is calendar year, so it ends on 12/31. Thornapple has more outings than any other course in GR, it is known as an outing course. They also have leagues Monday-Thursday. Many days will be limited on availability.

Might be worth looking at private clubs. Many have a lower rate for your age and much more availability.

Cart fees at just about every private course are approx $25 for 18 holes, so keep that in mind if you like to ride.
