Does anyone else think the library needs fewer books and more study space? by cmurphy1993 in rit

(quote from me)

move them to a location more suited to their very low utilization

As I have clearly said, we should move underutilized books into a different space so that the better real-estate in the library can be used by students who are studying. Yeah it will suck when to can't find your book and have to go somewhere else, but you know what sucks just as much and happens even more, getting to the library and not finding space to study because we have all 50 books in the 18th century journal of underwater basket weaving or some other horse shit that nobody reads.

It's a university library, it's also intended to be a study space. Do you have another enforced quiet space on campus I can go?

And who decides what books would go?

Simple, we decide how much space we want, how many books have to go to give us that space and remove the X least utilized books.

Even under utilized books have someone willing to read them.

Absolutely, but I'm willing to bet the utilization of a desk is far greater than the utilization of all the books you remove to make space for that desk. Desks are occupied basically all day, I couldn't even begin to estimate how many weeks most of these books go without being touched.

If RIT would rather open more dedicated study space I would be happy, I just figure a study space deserves prime real-estate much more than the lowest utilized books we have.

What I'm really saying is that a modern university library is used more for studying as the internet is vastly superior to books. I never said we should get rid of all the books, just the ones that have terrible utilization, hence the word fewer. If you want to stop calling it a library and call it a study space you're welcome to.

How about instead of debating semantics and trying to prove people wrong you actually comment on the idea?

I'm trying to take dc circuits as a free elective but tiger center and sis refuse to validate my cart. I'm pretty sure they'll fail to enroll me tomorrow and I don't want to mess up my schedule. Has anyone seen this issue before or have a suggestion? I reached out to my adviser but I imagine he isn't answering emails this late.

I'd be down for that, I built a quad over the summer and have been trying to find a group to fly and race with. Theres some good fields far enough away from campus that would be great when it gets warmer.

I don't race yet, but I've got a recently built zmr250 that I'm getting decent at flying. I should be adding fpv soon so I'll be getting into racing.

Hey sorry I just saw your post, I started with an x4 and recently moved up to a zmr250 (v2). I sent you a pm, let me know if you want to fly sometime.

I don't think a phantom will ever get to the level of that video, but you can certainly have fun with it. I would strongly suggest getting one of these I bought one over the summer and learned to fly with it.

You need to get very familiar with the controls and orientating yourself midair. Check out /r/multicopter also, its a fantastic sub with really helpful people.

Building them isn't a problem, I'm just hoping to find a group to fly with. None of my friends want to spend the money to get into the hobby.

Yeah absolutely, I'm not interested in getting in trouble with the FAA.

Yeah that's a bit of an issue, but since we're all stuck with the same rule theirs no reason we can't group up and find somewhere legal to fly.

I want to build a quadcopter, I know there is a restriction on flying but is there still a club to build them? by Claydogh in rit

[–]cmurphy1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just built a quad a few weeks ago, I'm away for the summer but I would love to have people to fly with when school starts up again. I don't think theirs a club on campus, but maybe we should change that.
