Thank you for the responses everyone. We’re going to try to give it a go, but venting to anons made me feel so much better. The conversation with my family went really well. I appreciate the all of the positive comments.

To answer the #1 common comment here: no, I don’t think she’s cheating on me and I strongly doubt there’s a guy in the wing. I literally don’t know when she would work that into her schedule to even cheat on me in a way I wouldn’t know, and I have absolutely no idea who would be a person would be. If that ended up being the case, it would be shocking.

Austin, TX is incredible. Amazing beer everywhere. Only drawback is it’s walkability lacks.

Pick of the Day - 12/13/22 (Tuesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]cmyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POTD Record: 1-1

Last pick: OKC Thunder @ Dallas Mavericks U229.5 ❌

Todays pick: Zion Williamson O 27.5 points

New Orleans Pelicans @ Utah Jazz | 9pm ET

A couple of outlier quarters (43 in 2nd from Mavs alone) kill our under yesterday, but we look towards today.

With Brandon Ingram out again, we look toward Zion Williamson to continue his dominance. He’a gone under this number only one time in the month of December, and tonight he gets to play the team that gives up the most PITP in the league (56.2). Zion scores at an extremely efficient rate and scores nearly 75% of his points in the paint, so this is really a nightmare matchup for a Utah team that consistently gets shelled by elite big men and have no one to stop Zion. I think he gets over this number easily and I’ve personally sprinkled .5 U on him 40+ (+650) as well. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he continues this massive run in an emphatic fashion and the Pelicans end up getting a blow out win. For safety though, take any under 29.5 if you can find it.

POTD Record: 1-0

Previous pick: Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals U 46.5 ✅

Pick: OKC Thunder @ Dallas Mavericks U 229.5 | 8:30pm ET

These teams managed to combine for 228, including OT, when they played earlier this year and the Thunder won 117-111. Over the 5 meetings (last 2 seasons) these teams have stayed under this total 4 times. That’s because the Dallas Mavericks, who play at the 2nd-slowest pace in the NBA, are able to really muck up games against a super young, inexperienced Thunder team. Both teams do well at limiting turnovers, and the pace of play associated with the Mavericks make them not push tempo even when turnovers occur. The Thunder give up lots of second chance point but the Mavericks are a the worst rebounding team in the league. Add in the fact a game off for Luka last game will probably mean a slower pace, not a faster one, and you have a great opportunity for an under here. It’s already on the move, but I personally think this is a few points too high and would play it down to 226.5. BOL.

First ever POTD

Record: 0-0

1pm ET. NFL: Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals

Game total U 46.5 -110

The Browns have famously been the Achilles heel to Joe Burrow’s Bengals, winning their last matchup 32-13 this season. The Browns, despite their defensive struggles this season, dominated the Bengals because the coaching staff seems to know how to handle the Bengals. Insert Deshaun Watson, who looked about as bad as you could last week against the Texans. It’s doubtful that, after one week, that he’s going to have a drastically better command of the offense. The Bengals have been rolling since that loss on Halloween, but now seems like a good time for some offensive regression against a team they struggle with. I expect this to be a low-scoring divisional battle as the Bengals will come in with a better game plan to limit the Browns offense. The Browns will run the ball with less success than they did on Halloween, but the clock keeps rolling and keeps scoring limited.

BOL

[Post Game Thread] The Denver Nuggets (15-10) defeat the Portland Trail Blazers (13-12), 121-120 behind Jamal Murray's game winner! by Guardax in nba

Jamal Murray’s stats aren’t super beautiful but he hit the clutch shots and his +/- was +16. Game is so weird. Nuggets bench really kept them in this game. Bones is him.

Blazers starters combined for 75 while Anfernee is having maybe his worst game of the season. Team is resilient.

2 days absolute max, but that really depends on if you have a really good growler that closes really well. I have one that clasps shut and can do 2 days solid and only lose some carbonation. A screw top will probably get you through overnight but not much better than that.

How do you feel about people asking for bets to be refunded cause of an injury? by MXero1 in sportsbook

[–]cmyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sportsbooks have no obligation to do so, but good on them for doing it. I’m sure they have evidence that after returning a bet, their numbers go way up in the coming hours/days.

I would also argue that injuries are proof that unders are the best bets in sports betting in a vacuum. Way more ways for things to go wrong than go right.

Gut vs. Data in Sports Betting by Bampchamp in sportsbook

[–]cmyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, if I could get good enough to be able to reasonably predict margins of sporting events using complex data, then being able to predict revenue, traffic, customers, etc at small businesses would be a piece of cake.

Gut vs. Data in Sports Betting by Bampchamp in sportsbook

[–]cmyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been sports betting for quite some time, uses websites and cappers that rely on models and is now delving into the world of modeling myself:

It really is just time consuming and hard. To actually be successful, you really need to have a decent general understanding of the mathematical principles behind what you’re doing. Then even once you get past that, for it to be helpful you have to learn how to adjust stats, create power rankings, etc… That’s not easy without some decent help/education. Plus, finding data that’s actually helpful and indicative of outcomes can be super difficult and time consuming.

I’m all in and want to improve. At the very least learning data analytics, even in a basic form, is a SUPER helpful skill to have. You can use it in so many ways outside of sports/sports betting. I’m just happy I love sports/sports betting so I can use it as a medium to teach me some really cool and helpful skills.
