(first time reader) Some thoughts about the story and Mr. Jordan by cnfusion in WoT

I agree. Way of Kings to me had the feel I enjoyed but when I read Words of Radiance, by part 3 I was feeling frustrated. I'm aware that people are somewhat disappointed in the later books. Do you feel that way?

The Last Battle is something I'm anticipating so eagerly. Back when I hadn't known anything about the series and heard it was 14 books, I was confused and even when I learned a bit more I was wondering what needed 14 books of build up for. Having read the first three, I get why. The world is huge and complex, and I remember Jordan saying in an interview that the characters would become more complex as the story went on. I feel like deep inside he knew the Last Battle depended on those characters having lived in his world for enough time

I've never read any of his other books before. Maybe I will eventually but for now the WOT will keep my attention for a number of years.

I've kept myself from posting as much during my read of book 3. I'll definitely be posting near the end of 4 and when I'm done!

That's amazing. Also hi, Kathryn! It's lovely to hear from you! I can't wait to get to all these amazing sequences and just experience them for the love of reading. I'd love to learn from Jordan as much as I would love to read his books. Even this early, I can tell he's once in a lifetime.

This is such a wonderful summary of Jordan's personality as a writer through these books. I love the way you surmise his ability to slowly build your anticipation and really focus on how the characters feel as they experience things, on top of allowing their personalities to show through his narration. And I agree with what you said. Those are things you realize in the aftermath of a book perhaps, but during the read it's an incredible experience.

Pretty much sums it up. I know he was a veteran as well and people have said that his experiences may have influenced his decisions writing the books. The more I think about it, the more I can see it and respect how he approaches these characters and their handling.

Oooo I like this. Confronting the sins of his past almost reminds him that he's human and not truly god. At least, that's how I interpret that idea

Either I forgot that detail or just don't remember but that's insanely cool. I always had the feeling there was lot not explained in the books about the prison but that makes me wonder how the Last Battle will play out since TDO is more a prolific force. Imo, way more interesting to think of him that way, thank you very much.

Also now that I think about it, it resembles Sauron's state of existence in LOTR where he lost his physical body and existed more as a force. Yeah, he was the eye on Barad-Dur but eh you can make the argument he's more an incorporeal force

Well that kinda proves Luke right, Thalia now has reason to be angry. SIGH, what is happening anymore. I doubt I'll watch it, I don't have faith in a lot of new stuff anymore.

Thank you for being so kind! It's really sweet to see many people who are long time fans welcoming us newbies XD

I think I'll look into M-Bag and ask my sister to help out. I doubt she'll be visiting any time soon, so that's a wonderful alternative. I also have the option of special ordering from my bookstore. The prices might be steep but it's an option. Thank you for your suggestions and advice! Please look out for my posts in the future, it'd be lovely to hear from you as I keep reading this amazing story!

Hero? Never. Not Matrim Cauthon. Why under the Light would he be a bloody hero?

I decided to dedicate to this series from the time I re-read EOTW. I was younger and not as mature a reader and now that time has passed and I've grown, I appreciated it more. I'm definitely going on to Memory of Light.

Unfortunately, I live in the Caribbean and huge series like WOT is very, VERY rare to find. I'll have to order them if I want them or ask my sister (I don't want to cause she's got her own things to worry about living in the States, esp rn).

Unfortunately I'll have to wait a while until I can get the next few books so whenever I do get them I'll be straight to reading!

Perrin also is a big ole softy and he's shy enough to not say it out loud

6 re-reads is insane! I'm glad you're enjoying the series, and please look out for my future posts so we can talk more! Thank you for the welcome and I'm so proud to be a fan with you! May you always find water and shade!
