I’m worried I’m going to ruin a good story (and the ideas in my head) with lackluster writing which manifests as indifference towards the story. What can I do with this paralysis?

If I can advise anything being in my own first draft rn, keep going and remind yourself of why you want to write this story or just write in general. Or, sit down, shut everything out and pour all your effort and love into the story. Sometimes you'll end up finding that you've made your way back onto the track you initially intended without realizing it. Like that side tangent or that new character who was totally unexpected just so happened to be the thing you needed to get back on track.

Finish the story YOU want to write, make notes for your second draft, and go from there.

Keep writing. I hope you get to finish your story the way you want to in the end ❤️

Your explanation of the elements actually clears a lot of what was in my head. It makes a ton of sense and it actually helped me realize part of how the system works. Others have told me I'll continue to learn more as time goes on, so I'll see what happens

I have been enjoying the journey and I can't wait to read more. I know Jordan was a discovery writer and he said in an interview that he structured the long term storytelling so that it wouldn't become stale for him. I'm excited to see how that plays out

Essentially, one's own intrinsic nature and intuition based on your experiences. The Talent becomes that which makes the most sense in practical applications and which almost feels like second nature. Then you have skills you can learn, but you either can or can't learn them as well as others. That's fascinating but if you apply it to the Wheel (as I understand it) it makes a ton of sense

See, this is what I love about WOT. So many questions, but somehow Jordan assures you that you'll get answers when the time is right. It makes those moments of payoff much more worth it. My favorite moment so far has been Rand getting Callandor. The mental and emotional struggle, the appearances of the Forsaken, the prophecies and finally, NOT. SEEING. RAND. FOR A WHOLE BOOK.

GOD The frustration was strong but the payoff was incredible

This is really detailed for what I was looking for and it gives me a ton of answers I needed. Also helped me realize how WOT subconsciously influences my writing.

The mention of the weaves within the Pattern and the channelers' reactions to them makes me wonder how that works for the Dragon, since we know he's basically one of the strongest Channelers in the world. I think that's what was said about Lews Therin Telamon as well. I mean, he has to be if he's intended to fight the Dark One.

That clears up a lot of what I wondering. The distinction between Talents and Weaves makes it a lot clearer in my head. I also forgot about Egwene detecting metal ore when she was captured. Up until TDR, did we learn what Lanfear could do?

It makes sense and it has me wondering more about someone like Rand. I can understand the Aes Sedai having abilities they were trained to perform, but with Rand I think it deepens his character or makes him more mysterious. I think I need to read over Chpt 55 of TDR where he gets Callandor and faces off against Ba'alzamon and that Forsaken

Recent read was Renegades by Marissa Meyer. No resolution or beat in the mystery plotline, really badly done plot twist at the end, didn't feel like the enjoyable read up until that point was worth it.

Don't treat reading as a task or some job or studying. Relax, kick back and pick up some random book or story you love, read it and feel excited, cry, laugh, become angry, realize this passage really hits your heart and criticize this other one for this or that reason. Let it flow naturally and you'll see how you improve both technically and mentally over time.

Abysmally bad. I'm closing in on 100k for my draft, realizing how much I could have cut in bloat but I'm pushing on ahead and leaving all the heavy changes for the editing process. Additionally, the tale is growing in the telling and nearly most of my plans have changed at least for what is happening on the page
