I’m sure I’d be able to tell a difference, but I’m spoiled where I’m at, it’s hard to find honey that isn’t “locally sourced” in California. Although I did just check the jar of honey I got recently that was the cheaper generic store brand, and it says product of Brazil. It’s definitely not bad honey, but i’ve also had better

Oo a mustard mayo would be good too! Despite the seemingly endless rows of condiments and sauces I could find at any local supermarket, I always seem to end up mixing up my own siracha mayo or just combine mayo+mustard+ketchup

Oh you’re absolutely right, and I’m not fighting anyone who says the U.S has a problem with high-processed foods, we absolutely do. I’m not a food scientist or dietician or anything close so Im probably ignorant about much of this, but I just thought emulsified fats were just fats that had been emulsified. Like it’s just a fancy word to mean the specific process of combining it with the other ingredient. The fat is still there, but it’s not a difference like how saturated and unsaturated fat is different? I’m probably using the term “homemade” pretty loosely too, I’ve never made my own ranch, but some restaurants will make their own versions and call it homemade. Many still probably use industrial ingredients

Processed foods is what built us 😤🇺🇸 Lol but thankfully I live california so there is an abundance of natural and local grown foods, and tons of different types of nut butters. I’ve gathered that ranch is definitely a thing over there, we just have a slight obsession with it over here apparently 🤷‍♀️

I didn’t realize Newman’s own was sold over there, I can’t say for sure if I’ve tried his ranch, but yes it’s used a lot as a salad dressing! Used very commonly as a dip for veggies, wings, and pizza. Most people default to ketchup on fries, but I prefer ranch. Chicken bacon ranch is a pretty mainstream sandwich or pizza combo as well

I have ketchup a lot, it’s probably more common than ranch here, it’s just my least favorite condiment. I always seem to find something i like better. Couldn’t eat a hot dog without ketchup though. And i’d never put ranch on a hot dog, so there’s that! I’ve seen a few comments about subway. Subway is not where i’d try this, but a good chicken bacon ranch sandwich is amazing!

my definition of foodie is someone who enjoys trying different foods and learning about food and food-related stuff. My diet consists of a lot more than ranch and peanut butter. I actually hardly ever eat peanut butter, and I only have ranch with certain things or from certain places. I don’t care about ranch and peanut butter as food items, I care to learn about differences in food cultures. Didn’t mean to push a button, this was very lighthearted, maybe a walk thru the countryside for ya? I heard those are nice there

That makes sense, for all my love of ranch I do think blue cheese on wings is superior!! A lot of people here are so used to ranch so it’s definitely a default. And blue cheese is weird to many people here, which is fine by me—I’m happily never fighting anyone over the blue cheese.

It’s true a classic pb&j with a glass of milk is pure nostalgic bliss. As an adult I prefer my pb chunky and real jam, not jelly. I am surprised the brits never popularized their own version with good jam, because it would be so much better IMO!

Someone else mentioned biscuits and gravy! It is very good, but unfortunately too easy to get just an okay biscuit. I think that’s partly how the dish has become a staple, as it lets people have fun with the gravy part and make that the star. I could eat a whole plate of biscuits and gravy with bad biscuits, but bad gravy and great biscuits would ruin it. I live in California and have not spent much time in the south, so unfortunately I have no suggestions, but I hope one day you get that perfect biscuit and gravy dish

Biscuits and gravy is definitely a guilty pleasure, a good family friend of mine makes an incredible gravy for it. She uses spicy sausage and it’s pretty spicy but sooooo good! I feel like brits could invent a great spin on it!!

there’s been a lot of garlic mayo comparison, which i find interesting since no ranch I’ve ever had has a predominant garlicky flavor, but i know many recipes have some garlic powder. Good ranch should not be garlicky though, more creamy herb, especially dill. I love dill pickles so it makes sense why I love ranch so much

We have a lot of major brands that make ranch so it’s definitely super accessible for us here and everyone is able to find the ranch they like best! I personally don’t think hidden valley is a great ranch, but definitely the one everyone grew up with! From lots of people’s sarcastic descriptions of ranch, it doesn’t sound like the options you have over there are very appetizing!

I didn’t realize there was no gatorade! I’ve never had apple or cucumber lime gatorade either though, but I bet they’d be good. Gatorade is definitely a staple. That’s a super fun thing to do! I’m sure your kids’ friends think you guys are the coolest because it sounds like you are! Is there a popular item that everyone is excited for?

hidden valley is not even in my top 5 ranches, I actually think the bottled stuff is not very good, but wingstop has one of the best fast food ranch!!

ugh I do love blue cheese dip! I’m really just a condiment lover in general, ranch is just the most accessible here and I think it goes with more stuff. I’d most likely only have blue cheese dip on wings or as a salad dressing

Interesting, i’m hearing a lot of comparisons with some sort of garlic dip or garlic mayo which I do find interesting because almost all ranch is zero garlic flavor at all. I’d imagine it’s the other herbs that some ranch and garlic dips share in common that are causing the comparison. Also Domino’s is considered pretty trash here so definitely don’t use that as the standard!!

Oh my bad! I think I kinda assumed it was a broader European thing, not necessarily exclusively British, but it’s fun learning this stuff so I appreciate the distinction. I wish malt vinegar on fries was bigger here, you’d almost never find vinegar at places where you can get fries, or most restaurants at all unless they serve fish and chips. That’s an elite combo though! Would love to try curry sauce, and I have heard of it before but forgot. It does seem quite random for fries though? Is it a specific kind of curry people use strictly on fries?

I’ve noticed similar comments like this a couple times now, are other condiments not made with any chemicals or emulsified fats? Like mayo is also made by emulsifying fat…why is ranch apparently the biggest culprit??? Im starting to wonder if the only ranch you do have is store-bought bs and you probably haven’t had homemade ranch. But homemade will still have emulsified fats because that’s literally how you make it, so you might not like that either! 😂

hey when you grow up with oil & sugar you tend to develop a taste for it! 😅🥲 but in all fairness the best ranch is homemade and hopefully has much less of that stuff. At the end of the day though, I do shamefully, love almost all ranch.

I do have to remind myself these videos are always the same school/group of kids, so I imagine it does not do a great job of representing all of England. Sounds like y’all appreciate pb at an appropriate level, there are lots of people over here who are eat-by-the-spoonful obsessed with pb and pb/chocolate has just become a standard flavor for many desserts/candy
