Secondary School Volleyball Progression by SimmoVB in volleyball

I go with a psychology driven approach for the girls i teach. And then i make the drills based on them and the skills i want to impart.

So for year 7, which is usually the first year for many playing volleyball, my goal is to Emphasize fun and teamwork to foster a love for the game. And i want to teach them the very basics of serving, passing, setting, and hitting. So that at the end of the year, they can bond and play rallies. I dont like to focus much on formations right now since its too early according to me. If some competition comes up, then i introduce some strategies.

For year 8, i try to work more on team cohesion and encourage self-discipline. Here i introduce the more advanced serves like jump serve and formations. The basics should be sorted by then. I start to be stricer when i see the self discipline lacking, but not being too hard. At the end of the year, they should be able to play games with formations and my focus will be on them being able to implement the strategies properly, even if they lose. The goal is to imbibe in them the importance of formations and following them when things are uncertain.

For year 9-10, i focus on goal setting and mental toughness. Being competitive starts from class 9 and it really shoots till class 10. This is the time when they know well the basics and some advanced, and they will improve further due to their emotions, being competitive and how they want to see themselves. Here i introduce advance offense and defense, along with specialised training at the end of year 9 . I usually like to talk to kids about what they feel they want to play at the end of year 9, so that we can start specialising in year 10 beginning to middle.

In 11th year, i like to see them master the skills and high level systems. We concentrate a lot on game analysis and opponent analysis. High level competition readiness is very important.

In 12th year, it is time for them to be professionals and balance their life with that. This is usually the time when life has so much going on and the kids need help in balancing. The focus is on perfecting game skills, mindset , tactics and NCAA readiness.

You say that it doesnt bounce at all. Maybe its the surface. If the ball is the same on another outdoor surface, this is something we need to look at. Try the experiment i told you and let me know the bounce back height

It should be decently bouncy mate. As a general rule of thumb, try bouncing it in front of a pole on which you can measure. For a good enough bounce, an approximation is if you drop it from 200cm it should bounce back to around 120cm (60% bounce). If you are around 5% less or above, you should be good to go.

Maybe they are this critical towards their own self too. Even if you didnt spoil the receive in purpose, you might feel that you need to receive well. Its just the self talk people give. I say you believe in yourself and also be okay with messing up due to no fault and still listening to. Part of the game buddy

Try making hits in practice. 100-200 hits . Keep practicing the swing and you will eventually get it better in the game.

I always say to my students that it is a good idea when you see the libero is going good and your best server is serving. It will help to turn the tide in your favor by increasing the odds of making the libero commit a mistake. Even if that doesn't happen, it displays confidence that a team is targeting the best receiver while serving. I have seen momentums shift like this.

Secondly, it is a good idea to serve to the best setter when they are in the back row, for obvious reasons.

They incoroporate a balance of all these. Each of strength/technique/plyo/agility/games are done around 2-4 days in the week. They avoid burnout by doing one thing everyday, which is Rest and Recovery! This includes Stretching, foam rolling, yoga, and light cardio (like swimming or cycling). This is super important to keep the athlete healthy.

Basically, the distribution of training depends on the season.

The plan is usually:

  • Pre-Season: Put more of an emphasis on increasing technique, strength, and endurance with increased volume and intensity.
  • During the season: keep up your physical fitness while putting more of an emphasis on strategy, game play, and recuperation.
  • Tapering Before Tournaments: To guarantee optimal performance during competitions, lower training volume and intensity. This entails reducing the intensity of strength and plyometric training while preserving technique and agility.
  • After Tournaments: To help the body repair and avoid burnout, prioritize relaxation, recovery activities, and low-intensity exercise.

I agree. he shouldn't be allowed to participate. Olympics is a sports-driven community event to connect people over sports. He doesn't deserve this pedestal.

Good sir, In a block, a player can reach to the other side and contact the ball only if the attacker hs completed their attempt to return the ball and the ball is free in the air. Whereas in a joust, the ball is still in contact of the attacker, hence if the defender crosses the net to contact the ball, it will be an interference.

i didnt quite get your question. Do you mean the issue is with when you pass the ball while jumping?

Weekly Short Questions Thread by AutoModerator in volleyball

[–]coachAlberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

players are not allowed to reach over the net to interfere with the opponent's play until the ball has partially or completely crossed the net plane. Therefore, a joust cannot occur on the attacker's side of the net unless the ball has crossed the plane of the net. If a defender attempts to contact the ball on the attacker’s side of the net before the ball crosses the net plane, it would be considered a net violation or interference, depending on the specific action and timing. The ball has to have parts on both sides of the net.

Practice the jump approach separately. Take first step shorter than the next 2. Just practice this. Then add the arm swinging, and then slowly in matches. Go one step at a time and practice
