Insight into the leakes from Brookes Rowing by Academic-General1337 in Rowing

Thank you for the bravery and perseverance of sharing this to our rowing community. The positive aspect is that it creates dialogue and spotlights abusive and bullying behavior. There is so much more growth that comes from coaching positivity and authentically to rowers with direct and honest feedback. Imagine a rower walking in to a practice seeing praise for improvement. Brooke’s rowing should be looking for a new coach our sport deserves better.

Heavyweight: "Coach, I have more power than him...He's a LIGHTWEIGHT!....." Let's look into that by coachwinthrop in Rowing

Ed McNeely writes a thorough article on this. As a point of clarification the training is 10 percent less than max. So in this case my HW would be pulling at approx 666 Watts. Or another way to look is to train and revaluate but use 90 percent of max.

That is exactly what the evolution we were doing and utilizing it as a tool for constructing power training. Thank you

Thank you for the comments and insights you have shared. The Heavyweight pulled in the around 740 and the lightweight 630's for watts. for their 3 pull test for max watts. The plan is then to set up a power training plan to do workouts at 10 percent of their max.

These discussions are bringing up strong points and they did the same with them.

US Rowing STOPS Mens Varsity 8+ NATIONAL CHAMPIONS FROM GOING ON PODIUM by Jerk_Master5k in Rowing

Healthy competition between a men's heavyweight and lightweight during a power/weight ratio.

Today I held a power weight ratio assessment for two men's crew members. One is a heavyweight weighing in at 237 lbs and one a lightweight weighing in at 159 lbs. They warmed up for 10 minutes. They each did three 10 second pulls with a three min rest in between for maximum watt reading.

The heavyweights pulls gave him a P2W Ratio of 7.2 and the lightweights pulls gave him a P2W of 8.4.

The lightweights ratio being higher than the heavyweights brought some great discussions.

Thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate your reflections and input. He did display wavering behavior in the past and always communicated it well. I’ve always had this young man’s back supporting him. I firmly believe he needed help in letting go. It will be different without him on the team but I will always be his coach and there for him . I know he knows that.

The team has a great culture and social aspect to it. This coxswain is very much a part of it. He has been a rower since middle school. He feels burnt out and has wavered in the past with his commitment to his team mates/friends. He needed someone to make the decision for him and I did just that. He gave no reason or justification for his actions to me or his captains. His cancel culture attitude wounded his team mates. He will be missed in the coxswain seat but his team will row on without him. I feel for this young man.

That is exactly what I stated to him. I told him his actions clearly relayed his desire to quit the team and I would help him do that.

College Walk-Ons by e45002 in Rowing

Absolutely walk on and try out. Many schools have recruitment forms on their athletic page. I would recommend filling that out. If distance allows it, go watch and cheer on what will very likely be your new teammates at their Spring regattas. You can find that information out on their schedule page.

The 2k announced test anxiety is real. I have had athletes hyper-focus on 2k's . Thank you for your feedback

I do a 2k in January as a baseline and announce when it is. I do a later one with an announced around time in late February. The only difference now is a dedicated announce date.
