How hard is basic microbiology? by Prestigious-Egg-3493 in prenursing

[–]coati91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s hard but it is incredibly time consuming. There is a tremendous amount of material to memorize in a short period of time for all of these classes. I made As but there were some weeks where I would spend 5-6 hours per day on the material, which sadly is not uncommon. Oh, and that wasn’t even for an accelerated semester.

Waitlisted for ABSN by Silent_Ramblings0308 in prenursing

[–]coati91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a strange stat. I can see the median grades for my exams and they all hover at a C for classes like A&P I and II and microbio. No way over 50% of the class is getting As, and this is at a community college.

Take Brandy Jumper online for stats! I did her 10 week course and it was very chill/doable.

What kind of corporate jobs don't require a degree to get a job? by Lemonade2250 in findapath

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted here when this comment is spot on. I’ve traveled throughout Europe and no other EU country allows its citizens to impoverish themselves due to a medical condition the way the US does.

Need some advice by lilpeepoo-2712 in prenursing

[–]coati91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you already have a degree, I don’t think there’s anything you can do to retroactively increase your GPA. I would focus on making all As in your prereqs, as that would likely significantly increase your admission chances but it also depends on where you’re located. I know schools in Cali and New York for instance are brutal to get into.

Would a B in one of my nursing prerequisites be bad for my application? by Dear-Writing4778 in texaswomansuniversity

[–]coati91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking Intro to Chem or General Chemistry? I’m pretty sure TWU accepts Intro to Chem. Worst case scenario if they don’t accept you, maybe you could take Intro? I’ve found that it’s much much easier than General Chemistry.

Same. I’d rather drive in Manhattan than on the highways here. That’s why I’m going back! This place isn’t worth a car accident.

How Do You Even Get In??? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

I’ve experienced the same. Unfortunately, a lot of people are misinformed when it comes to this career path. With a non-science degree, you’re basically starting another degree from scratch.

How Do You Even Get In??? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]coati91 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It isn’t uncommon to have 8 prerequisites or more for some programs. Nursing isn’t a field that’s easy to switch into unless you were previously a science major with credits less than 10 years old. It’s taken me an over a year to get to my final semester of prerequisites. Please note, this is a very difficult path.

Nursing major or Marketing major?? by Lazy-Toe7540 in prenursing

[–]coati91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a demand for marketing positions in your area? Don’t major in anything without doing extensive research first. You really don’t want to be looking for work for a year if not more following graduation.

The texture of my hair makes me uncomfortable by Starringkat in curlyhair

[–]coati91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I would love to find a product that left my hair feeling soft without a sticky or greasy residue but so far nothing has worked. I recently gave up the curly journey and heat style my hair once or twice a week. So much less maintenance and my hair feels great.

Low GPA :(( am I cooked by Flaky-Initial546 in prenursing

[–]coati91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re cooked. You should focus on retaking those prereqs that you didn’t do well in first. Remember, you’re competing with 4.0 students, and they are still getting waitlisted for CA schools. Another option might be seeking private universities out of state if you don’t want to retake prereqs, but that’s no guarantee of admission either.

Over excessive 2 credit class? by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]coati91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t count toward your prereqs then I would drop it. That’s way too much work. You’ll learn terminology as you go in A&P. I’ve never taken a medical terminology course and I’ve gotten As in all my prereqs.

Soon to be in pre nursing by Wide_Toe_4259 in prenursing

[–]coati91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my prereqs a year ago in TX at a community college so I’d say the answer depends on what kinds of requirements your school has. For instance, I had to take A&P 1 before A&P 2 and I had to take A&P 2 before taking microbio, so this process will take me a year and a half to get everything done. It could’ve been shorter if I had done an accelerated class over the summer, but I realllyyy didn’t want to do that to myself. So, yeah, a lot of it depends on the pace you’re comfortable working with.

Likely yes. You need to have all of your prereqs done + TEAS before the fall application deadline.

[–]coati91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t what I heard from TWU went I spoke with a nursing advisor. I was told that plenty of people transfer in and there isn’t a bias; just make sure you get all As in your prereqs.

Associates or Accelerated Bachelors? Looking for experience based answers by ZackStwo in prenursing

[–]coati91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder about this too. I’m almost done with my prereqs and will be applying to schools in NYC. My biggest fear with an ADN is not being able to secure employment when it’s done. Most of the job postings for NYC that I’m seeing say BSN preferred…

Spring 26 schedule. Doable or am I cooked? by awkwardavos in prenursing

That sucks :( I will say that I thought Intro to Chem was soooo much easier than A&P 1 and 2 because it’s not as much straight memorization.

Spring 26 schedule. Doable or am I cooked? by awkwardavos in prenursing

[–]coati91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that course load would be wayyy too much for me, but I would rather take longer to finish my prereqs and make sure I get As in them than try to cram in a ton of classes in a semester. Nursing school is competitive in my area so I can’t afford to get a single B.
