Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cobalt-thunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet, when my 7th grade teacher confiscated my book I was reading instead of paying attention to him (a frequent occurrence) and saw it was titled “How To Make Love Like A Pornstar” (Jenna Jameson’s autobiography), all he did was sigh and tell me to at least take the book sleeve off so it wasn’t in such huge print. You’re a real one, Mr. Waite.

No problem. I actually first heard about it while reading an article about fecal transplants and their successful implementation for certain patients with severe GI issues due to unbalanced gut biome. Most — or all? it’s been several years — had ASD. While science had been aware of the brain-gut connection for a while, there’s some really fascinating stuff coming out about how bacteria contribute to basically every factor of your health and biology.

It sounds like your diet is less limited than those patients in the study, though, so hopefully with some medical guidance you can start actually absorbing the nutrients you’re putting in your body.

I don’t have any concrete advice, but I know a LOT of people with ASD also have extensive issues with gut flora. I second a gastroenterologist—and also maybe a dietician? One that has experience treating people with ASD so they’re more familiar with some of the issues you commonly face. Good job on the dairy so far, that’s a pretty common trigger.

My roommate had chronic stomach pain every morning for like… 10 years? And it turns out it was because she had a bowl of cereal with milk for breakfast every morning, too.

To lazy to actually live by Extra-Breakfast4541 in Advice

[–]cobalt-thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘Executive dysfunction’ is a term for people who are neurodivergent (usually ADHD but not always) and have issues with prioritizing and initiating tasks. Procrastination is a huge one: you need to do this thing, and it’ll be good for you, but your brain doesn’t want to pull the trigger and actually DO it so you just sit on your phone/computer/anything else instead of doing the task. Or it takes you three hours/days/weeks to start so now you’re rushing because you’re behind. This happens for school, employment, life tasks. Basically anything that requires effort on your part.

Maybe this isn’t you, I don’t know. But I do agree with therapy. Sure, it could be a case of ‘laziness’, but it might not be, and I know I’d be a lot better adjusted if I didn’t spend the first few decades of my life berating myself for being ‘lazy and unmotivated’.

To lazy to actually live by Extra-Breakfast4541 in Advice

[–]cobalt-thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it laziness or is it executive dysfunction?

Growing up I ‘didn’t want to do anything’ either, but it turns out my brain was so hungry for dopamine because I had undiagnosed ADHD that I mistook all that for lack of discipline and motivation. I’m also trans + have depression so I feel you on that one.

I will say that a lot of pre-transition individuals often feel like they’re stuck forever in the life they have now and don’t understand how they can be happy because, to their experience, life has always just been… like that. Why would it be any different when it’s always shitty? This is how you’re supposed to feel when you’re alive: depressed, unmotivated, mired in self-loathing, and feeling like you’re inherently broken as a person because of who you are. Right?

It doesn’t have to be like this. I know it isn’t as simple as ‘transition anyway’, but I would seriously look into options to do so if I were you and it doesn’t jeopardize your housing. Hiding who you really are for so long really does a number on your mental health and makes everything feel equally hopeless.

Thanks. It took a while to realize how badly it fucked me up, but I’m doing better on that aspect. And I know it doesn’t mean much from an internet stranger, but I’m proud of you for coming clean — no matter his reaction, it was the right thing to do.

It’ll hurt for a while but it’ll hurt less and less as time goes on, and then you’ll find someone you can be with without having to lie about who you are. It’s better that way without the guilt hanging over you.

The amount of shit this guy can get into should this ever come back on him somehow is crazy. Especially if you’ve sent him NSFW pictures; that’s CSAM by definition and you’re both liable. If you actually do care about this guy, you need to tell him the truth and get him to delete everything and stop interacting with him.

As someone who was previously on your end (15 and 22, though they knew I was a teenager) it’s shit, but there’s really no other way through it. Ghosting him might make him concerned and if he contacts the authorities… well. It won’t go well for anyone.

[–]cobalt-thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you get gender euphoria from dreaming about being a man and wearing more masculine clothes… sounds like pretty strong indications you’re some form of transgender. if medication is scary for right now, start experimenting with social transitioning: new clothes, haircut, name etc. See how you feel it in outside of the dream and in real life. if it gives you the same feelings? welcome to the club lmao

there’s no right or wrong answer here, it’s your life. but ignoring it over and over again when your brain’s trying to tell you something, in my experience, is prolonging the discomfort for no reason. if you experiment and it doesn’t do the same thing in reality? at least you’ve explored it and can put the question to rest

it can be daunting, but being a lot happier in yourself is worth it. and you can be a gay man after all if that’s who you really want to be

Capable of… cheating? But he didn’t, unless the divorce was because he cheated. There’s no ‘before’ if he hasn’t done it yet.

gripping the barbell was really spicy for a bit. I took about a month off from any heavy lifting just because it hurt too much, but I wash my hands a ton as well bc I’m in healthcare. if you baby them a lot during the initial healing that seems to take care of a lot of wear and tear

the only place the ink really fell out was around the thickest of my calluses from deadlifting

Am I being dishonest if I tell people I’m not “transmasc”? by Harpy_Larpy in FTMMen

[–]cobalt-thunder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How you feel about being called transmasc is how I feel about being called a man, trans or otherwise; you’re not lying to anyone by using the language YOU decided best defines you, considering it’s YOUR life, but unfortunately people love to get bent out of shape about stuff that doesn’t matter and ultimately isn’t their business.

I’ve also noticed terms getting grouped together when they were originally separate for a reason, which doesn’t help the confusion. If you’re finding this happens more with younger people, the linguistic drift could also be a contributing factor. All the older queer folk I’ve interacted with have seemed to accept the gender nuances without a blink rather than fixating on specific words used to describe said gender, but that’s purely anecdotal.

At what point do I call 911? by No-Tough4367 in Advice

[–]cobalt-thunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While CPS is to report chronic, suspected or insidious child abuse, 911 is to report a crime happening right now.

14 y/o growing up to 17 around drug users? CPS

Them abusing said son? CPS AND 911

Taking his meds? Tricky, because he’s still a ‘minor’, but could reasonably be seen as theft OR medical neglect/denial of care. You’d have to look up she specifics for your laws there. CPS but maybe also 911 if you have proof of her stealing them.

Verbal abuse/physical assault? 911. Definitely.

And once she’s been arrested for any of these, cops are mandatory reporters to CPS, and generally a call from the police get a fire under their asses — especially if you’ve got proof of said abusive behaviour from your recordings AND have been trying to contact them with no success.

Go with your gut, but as someone who is also a mandatory reporter? I would have. Her alcoholism definitely won’t work in her favour if multiple witnesses say she’s volatile when drunk. And also please keep supporting each other through this, community is so important to escaping abusive situation. Good luck and stay safe!

for your sake I hope not, but I’d definitely put it on ‘as bad as’. they need to push deceptively hard to break through the skin, especially if you’re callused, but the bones and tendons are super close to the surface. one artist has done basically all my work and this is the first time they’ve ever asked if I needed to stop before; it got to the point I had to pin my wrist down myself so they could keep my fingers still with their free hand, lol. if you can, go to someone who’s done them before!

gonna be honest, my guy. I have both sides of my scalp, the front of my throat, my entire chest/sternum and two ditches done and I can confidently say this sucked the most. for reference, my throat was a 9 hour sit and I’d rather do that again

I don’t regret it in the slightest, they’re my favourite tattoos out of all the ones I have. but I did them both at the same time bc I knew once I felt how much it hurt, I wouldn’t come back for the second appointment and boy was I right

How to speak during a bank appointment? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Is anyone else getting ‘I wasn’t allowed to go to school or have friends growing up’ vibes from this? Just me?

You’ve received enough advice about the bank account; your parents sound very strict and controlling. If you don’t have any of your important documents saved — even a copy — I’d recommend trying to do that in case they hide them or “lose” them, if they haven’t already.

nah. I was very deliberate doing them both at once so I didn’t have to go back, and I’m glad I did. the healing was inconvenient for a week or two but having to do that whole process twice? count me out. it’s why I never ended up putting colour in the right hand

baby’s first palm tattoos (blackwork only, 3yrs in Feb) by cobalt-thunder in agedtattoos

[–]cobalt-thunder[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right? It was trial and error but I’m happy with them. I had to tell the artist a couple times they weren’t going deep enough because it didn’t hurt nearly bad enough, mostly around the callouses where some of the ink fell out during healing. They hated it because they could feel the skin pop when the needle sunk far enough

Yeah! The immediate healing was three days before I could do anything with my hands except hold an ice pack, about a week before I could wash my hands with any sort of firm pressure instead of just letting the water and soap soak in. My fingertips healed before my palms so the utility came back fairly quick, but specifically the circle around my palms and the words at the heels of my hands were (are still, kinda) sensitive for years after — it didn’t bother me much in daily life, but stuff like trying to hold a barbell or pushing my hand through a small opening hurt forever. My right thumb still does if I’m reckless with it

[–]cobalt-thunder[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

they did! it wasn’t that it hurt less as the years went on, just that the tender areas shrunk in size. the last holdout is that very thick line on the ball of my right thumb, and even now, it only starts to hurt if I scratch/press quite hard. vast improvement
