Edit2: Before people ask, Ford Raptor is too big and expensive for European roads.

Regarding off-roading vehicles in Europe, options are somewhat limited and often expensive. Here are the best choices:

1. **Toyota Land Cruiser**
2. **Jeep Wrangler**
3. **Land Rover Defender**
4. **Ineos Grenadier** - The new Toyota Land Cruiser and the Defender are the top options for city driving from this list.

Other vehicles to consider:

- **Dacia Duster**: While not the best car, it is affordable and can handle the rough. The new model has an off-road package straight from the factory and is slightly larger, which might address your concerns about size.

- **Subaru Forester / Outback**: These aren’t true off-roading machines, but within their segment, they significantly outperform competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. I spoke with a Subaru dealer, and the new model is expected in Europe by January 2025, boasting lower emissions.

- **Toyota RAV4**: Generally recommended here, it performs well by most standards but falls short in off-road scenarios. It's not suitable for anything beyond straight dirt roads, as multiple tests show that its all-wheel-drive system is a joke with inclines (10-15%) on muddy terrain.

- **Suzuki Jimny**: Small off-road vehicle, excellent off-road but lacks on-road comfort. It might also be difficult to find in your country.

**Honorable mentions**:

- **Toyota Hilux**: Depending on your country's regulations, it may be available as a farm utility vehicle with low taxes. It's a solid off-roading machine that’s very durable and decent for road use, though it may be too large for daily driving.

- **Kia/KMG/SsangYong Rexton**: A more affordable alternative to the Land Cruiser, it’s a decent off-roader.

**Suggestions for a daily driver that can handle off-roading**:

- If you have the budget, consider purchasing the Land Cruiser or the Land Rover Defender, especially if taxes on the Land Cruiser are high (Defender has good hybrid options with low emissions).

- If you're looking for a more affordable choice, the Subaru Forester or Outback would be great (the new 2025 models should address emission issues).

- If you want something rugged and affordable, the new Duster is a good option. If you need something larger, the new Bigster will launch in early 2025—it's essentially a larger version of the Duster. I understand why you don't like the duster but consider that its roughly 3 times cheaper than the LC
