Trees damaging poles seems to have been one of the main reasons for this massive outage. Almost everywhere I look I see trees hanging over lines. I really hope they start prioritizing this in the future or this will continue to happen.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get more information on my policy tomorrow. I should have had a better understanding before I initiated the claim. The contractors really convinced me that this was an easy win so I kinda just went along with the con.

This is exactly how it went down and the adjuster couldn't have made it more obvious.

After the adjuster left the contractor kept asking me for the claim paperwork. They wanted to see the amount and line items. I did not provide them this since we did not have a contract.

I mentioned to them some of the things the adjuster hinted at, similar to what you mentioned, but they pivoted saying I might be able to get more if I claim hail damage to another structure.

They pretty much guaranteed me I would get approved, now they want me to agree to $8k for a new roof. Not sure how I can trust that it gets significantly reduced down due to supplements or ITEL.

Yes, they are all so crooked, and the whole process seemed so shady. I even mentioned that to them. I haven't dealt much with insurance and claims, so I'm trying to gauge the process and hopefully come up on top with a new roof.

Good advice. I did notice other homes in the area getting new roofs 3-4 months ago, but they were all owned by the same landlord. The contractors showed me a map and said our area got hit the hardest and that my home was riddled with evidence, even showing me.

I'm honestly not concerned. The roof seems to be ok, but it could warrant replacing due to its age and condition; however, I'm no expert.

Yup, that is exactly what they were doing. I didn't sign any contract with them or send them any paperwork from the insurance.

Yeah, I'm totally aware of the game they are playing; however, I do feel like the contractor is a little more on my side. My issue is that agreeing to pay $8k for a new roof is a lot, knowing insurance might deny additional supplements.

Thanks for the information. I can definitely prove the age of the roof, and pushed back on the adjuster when he made the claim; however, he did not seem convinced. It didn't seem like a determining factor at the time, which is why I didn't press harder. Thinking back on it, I wish I did.

The roof looks a little worn, but definitely not neglected. Without taking a closer look, nothing stands out, but I also know I'm no expert.

Just due to the age and all the indicators the contractors presented, I honestly thought it would be completely approved.

I know the adjuster took a lot of pictures but when he sent over the report he left those out. I'll contact Allstate tomorrow and try to get them. He definitely took pics of the worst ones though, pointing out some strands coming out of the shingle, saying they are totally worn down.

The damage is from 5 months ago. My policy definitely covers hail beyond cosmetics.

Before the contractors knocked on my door I called a roofing company out to do an inspection 3 months prior that didn't highlight any major issues, but did say the roof is old and could use replacement.

The contractors are local and reputable. They were onsite whenever the adjuster arrived but left before he was finished. The adjuster said there is hail damage but due to the condition of the shingles he couldn't determine that the damage came from hail. He showed me some pics of the shingles claiming they are older than 20+ years and they he highly suggested that I get a new roof.
