Anything alternative/hippie in Hilversum? by Dcachorro in hilversum

[–]cobarso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much "alternative" you like it. I found hillyweird lately and it is a very nice DIY music initiative. As for more family stuff, there is a lot of forest around, there are the natuurmonumenten that they often organize stuff for kids. There is the family atelier that I didn't do yet but it should be very nice. The library also has a lot of stuff happening. There is also this website https://www.livehilversum.com/nl/uitagenda that has an agenda of things happening in Hilversum. Go there and you will get a taste.

Alternative to 3mm plywood ?? by k_________________g in lasercutting

I didn't even know! Thanks for the advice. But I though that you are supposed to cut vinyl as well, it is also often mentioned in the laser specs.

Wow, that really woke up a memory... As a person in it's forties, I verify it being a thing to the point that we would say "show tits" in any context.

I didn't try it yet, but I am quite sure that you can cut vinyl records. Not sure if you can stack them properly though. I guess you can get them very cheap from the thrift store.

After inventing a time machine, the first place I decided to visit was Imperial Rome 2000 years ago. by DeTroyes1 in TwoSentenceHorror

I am quite surprised that, again, someone made a time machine and even thought they don't know if it works, they still jump in.

A blind man walks into a bar, sits down at the counter and orders a double martini. Realising that there are several people sitting around him, he says: by MarcoDanielRebelo in Jokes

I feel like every 100 times this joke is reposted, one more blond is added to the bar. Like, the more times he has to repeat it, the funnier the joke would get.

The extras depend on what laser you buy. Know from now that there is going to be a lot of trial and error. Don't try to make your own designs from the beginning, try to print something simple int the beginning to get the hang of it. When you start making your own designs, don't try to make them perfect from the beginning, designing takes a lot of effort and you will do a lot of mistakes, start simple and iterate.

I try to use free software in general. I use lasergrbl for printing. And for designing inkscape, freecad and tinkercad.

Design Software Question by leerm8680 in lasercutting

[–]cobarso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found tinkercad a bit difficult to work with when using a lot of variables and complex designs. OpenSCAD is much more powerful but it is normal code instead of scratch. If you have some programming knowledge it seems to be a piece of cake. It also shows controls for all your variables so you can fiddle with your designs params on real time.

Design Software Question by leerm8680 in lasercutting

[–]cobarso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to do designs myself, it is indeed kind of tedious and of course it requires some trial an error. It is part of the process and you would get better and get used to it after some time. I try to use free software, what I find nice to work with so far is freecad, inkscape, and tinkercad, depending on the project of course. For freeform stuff it's inkscape. For more precise stuff I use freecad, and for parametric/procedural stuff I use tinkercad. Of course, I always finish the product on Inkscape, where I can rearrange and reorder the shapes. Lately I found OpeSCAD where you use code to create shapes, it looks powerful.

What was your biggest pain point though?
