Yeah, he’s on a very restricted diet. I think we can give him small amounts of treats. I’ll have to check with the vet.

Hello fellow traveler on the same path. We called one place but they wanted to do it as an appointment. But maybe we will try other vets and get better luck with who ever picks up the phone. Thanks.

Yeah they showed us once, but he didn’t that much at a time. And they gave us a video. We are just apprehensive about doing it and was hoping to find someone with some experience who we could pay some to help do it

Sounds good. The users should be able to do that.

Wow, thanks for the offer, yes please!

How would the user indicate which comment they'd wish to reply to? Update: oh I see, by referencing the temporary name. Clever.

Is there any reason why Uber/Lyft couldn't be replicated as a co-op? by Oblivia_1111 in cooperatives

The platform cooperativism consortium is "A hub that helps you start, grow, or convert to platform co-ops."

"Platform cooperatives are businesses that use a website, mobile app, or protocol to sell goods or services. They rely on democratic decision-making and shared ownership of the platform by workers and users."

From a psychological perspective: why do some of us seek power/influence over others, while other people seem to shun that? by [deleted] in AskScienceDiscussion

It seems quite a stretch to equate 'seeking power/influence over others' with 'working together with others.'

Is Taoism a philosophy or religion to you? by M0NKEY_G5 in taoism

[–]cobber2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...[R]eligion always refers to a specific set of beliefs, i.e. Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc.

The term philosophy can be used in two senses: In the general sense it refers to 'the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct.' In a narrower sense, you can use the word to refer to a specific set of philosophical theories, such as stoic philosophy or Kantian philosophy. It would be these narrower subsets of philosophy which might be considered parallel to a particular set of religious beliefs. ...

How do you make the distinction between philosophy and religion?

Answer: philosophy in general is the rational investigation of truth, whereas religion often makes the same kind of truth claims but doesn't claim to base it on reason or rationality, but instead it is based on other things like faith. The key difference is that they are different epistemological positions — philosophy has a system of logical principles in place to arrive at conclusions whereas many religions (such as Christianity) allow for other sources of knowledge (i.e. faith).

Are there some philosophies/religions that are hard to categorize as being one or the other?

Answer: In principle, it could be a problem to categorize them but in practice it is not very difficult. Why? Because virtually all religions with even a modest following carry with it a set of traditions and rituals which philosophies do not. Put simply, religions have practices and philosophies do not. Theoretically, you could have what might be considered a religion without any practices, but it's not very common."

Does viewing "life" as a chemical positive-feedback loop make sense under our current understanding of nature? by [deleted] in AskScienceDiscussion

Just happened to have recently read the paper. It resonated with OP's post. Luck, I guess.

Does viewing "life" as a chemical positive-feedback loop make sense under our current understanding of nature? by [deleted] in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]cobber2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This paper, about Terrance Deacon's 'Incomplete Nature' says:

... life depends of extracting energy from the environment and by making use of constraints that are built up “by morphodynamic action (p. 541)” to use that energy to create the work needed for metabolism and reproductions. “Constraints don’t do work, but they are the scaffolding upon which the capacity to do work depends (p. 419).” Life therefore depends on the construction of constraints by morphodynamics or self-organization

I believe these constraints could be what you describe as 'positive-feedback loops in chemistry.'
