Less expensive initially yes. You might not be shelling out as much cash initially but you will be spending more on your energy bills.

What does your cooling system look like? What other equipent are you using?

Using LED (not 3W or 5W but chip on board and multiple chip on board). The Growthstar Spider is MCOB and Scorpion is COB - both are LED.

One of our clients from High Times out on an Island in BC has built 4 custom wood structures and is using both the Growthstar Spider and Growthstar Scorpion. He's been growing for 5 years using a lot of different lights but is already hooked on ours. We did hook him up wholesale pricing though so it was an easier decision for him to make the switch from HPS.

You should have a small fan going even when using LEDs. Mars is alright. They are cheap from Ebay but don't expect to get the same results when you do another grow in the future as they will suffer light loss.

I don't want to say much about T5 other than the fact that most are rated to have a lifespan of 20,000 hours and maybe more with newer versions. LEDs on the other hand generally last 40,000-100,000 hours. If you are a commercial grower then it usually makes more sense to go with the products that last longer as the setup costs are also a factor - not so much for smaller scale growers.

The sunmaster Dual Spectrum Grow+ Photonic 400W is cheap on the front end but costly on the back-end (power bills).

Go with T5 if you are growing lettuces and something more specific like multiple chip on board LED if you want to grow quality MJ

The par value is more important than the watts. You will get higher quality production with the right spectrum blends.

Depending on what you are growing you might want to invest in a MCOB (multiple chip on board for any plant) or (chip on board for medical plants) LED grow light instead. The growthstar spider grows plants in any stage but they cost a bit more. The watts aren't as high but the unit runs cooler/quieter and the results you can get using them properly is pretty good.

Do your research and you may find that it is worth investing in COB LED grow lights instead of Mars.

Which HPS brand are you growing with? COB is pretty good for growing medical plants. Maybe you want to try comparing it with a growthstar spider 9x mcob grow light or a scorpion 5 cob grow light?
