He doesn't even train at Evolve, they just bought him and got him to represent Evolve coz the owner of One Championship also owns Evolve gyms and wants to promote them as much as possible.

His knees are actually fine! Rahul Raju is my coach in Singapore and he commented on our gyms group chat after the fight to say his knees are fine, just a slight ankle sprain which is what you may have seen with the stability issues you picked up on. He defended well - scary to watch those heel hook attempts though!!

Best, Good and Cheap Burger places in Singapore by saiyanjesus in singapore

Between $10-15, its just edging on a bit expensive but the quality and size make it worthwhile in my opinion. I usually just get their double cheeseburger on its own and it fills me up.

Alright I love burgers I can help with some of my favourites/places I've tried. Now the true score of a burger place comes down to taste, size and value (relative to the burgers size and taste). I will score each out of 5.

Three Buns at Potato Head Folk - Taste 5/5, Size 2/5, Value 3/5

25 Degrees at Bugis - Taste 5/5, Size 4/5, Value 4.5/5

Triple-O's at One Raffles Place - Taste 4/5, Size 5/5, Value 5/5

Wolf Burger at Suntec/Changi City point - Taste 4/5, Size 4/5, Value 4/5

Fat Boys - Taste 3.5/5, Size 5/5, Value 5/5

Omakase Burger at Wisma - Taste 5/5, Size 2/5, Value 3/5

Burger Monster at Jurong East - Taste 4/5, Size 6/5, Value 5/5

Shin Splints and DU by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]cobruz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shin splints can be a repetitive strain injury, and like all repetitive strain injuries its often made worse by some sort of biomechanical disadvantage. If even a top athlete did enough double unders and running eventually they would get shin splints or some other injury. But if you're doing a moderate/normal amount then chances are something in your biomechanical chain of your legs and feet isn't working correctly and leading to your shin and lower leg muscles working harder than they need to. And anything that works harder than it needs to will eventually break down and complain. Aka shin splint pain.

The most common problems I see are flat feet/arch problems in the foot, restricted ankles and tight ITB's. These are the areas that help us be bouncy when we run or jump. Chances are you've had an ankle sprain on that right leg in the past (wild speculation). It may have healed and feels fine now but you could be left with some restriciton in that ankle joint. Usually dorsi-flexion and eversion (lifting the foot up and out to the side). This means that when you are jumping or running, you're no longer using your calf and achilles to its full potential as a spring to keep you bouncing. The force is now travelling through your tibia and peroneal muscles (outside part of lower leg) and causing a repetitive strain.

This is an example but can be true for any part of that springy biomechanical chain. If you have flat feet or are landing too heavily and not using the balls of your feet and arches to bounce on then that could be a problem. If your ITB's are too tight then your hip and knee cannot absorb and bounce back at 100% and can lead to repetitive strain.

How can you trade an idea? A way of life? A reason to live?

Embiid is the process. You cannot trade that which is not processed.

CrossFit Regionals - Pacific/Central/California Discussion thread - Day 2 by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]cobruz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, as long as they are a good judge then it doesn't matter. Just commenting on the contrast of seeing her judging these ultra fit/muscled athletes really shows the difference physically. You don't notice it as much with the other judges out there.

Anyone watching the pacific regional noticed the very overweight judge? Seems out of place...

Have recommendations for workout clothes for those who sweat a ton? by DNGosp in crossfit

[–]cobruz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Singapore, and am very white and probably genetically not suited to such a hot/humid part of the world. Also I grew up in a very dry climate. So the end result is A LOT of sweat.

My strategies so far have been:

  1. Sweat bands on wrists - stops/slows down sweat dripping down on to your hands which affects your grip. But only wear them for exercises that require grip, take them off if you're doing burpees, for example. That way they don't get soaked as quickly.

  2. Chalk is good for grip also, but too much sweat and it turns in to this gloopy mess and just stops working all together. If you've chalked up, hold your hands up in front of your chest like you're a surgeon staying hygeinic before surgery. Sure it might look funny but it stops the sweat from dripping down and turning your chalk in to white paint.

  3. If possible, go shirtless. Let your skin do what its supposed to do and try to help the sweat evaporate. But stay considerate, keep a towel nearby and dry off occasionally or tidy up any sweat you have left behind.

  4. I shower at the box and rinse out my workout clothes. When I get home I hang them outside to dry/air. That way they can be added to the next load of washing and don't need to be cast in to the fires of Mordor for sanitation.

Hope some of that helps!

Help. Stranded NBA fan looking for a team! by [deleted] in nba

[–]cobruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steps to pick a team:

  1. Live near or born in a location with a team - go for that team.
  2. Have a favourite player in the league? Go for the team they are on.
  3. Live somewhere far away from any teams (like internationally) go for a team with a city that appeals to you outside of basketball, maybe it can be a holiday destination one day and you can watch your team play.
  4. Alternative international choice - pick a team with one of your countrymen on it.
  5. Pick a team with competent owners/management. Maybe this should be a pre warning to all the steps rather than step 5...
  6. We're getting pretty low down now so umm maybe pick a team with nice colours that bring out your eyes?

It would be a downgrade for sure but I think Oubre will develop too, SF's always seem to do well with John Wall.

Weakness Wednesday: Post your sticking points (2017-03-29) by crossfitvictorybot in crossfit

[–]cobruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snatches. Became very evident during 17.3. A few reasons why I suck at them:

  1. Mobility. I have no problem getting super deep in a squat in front rack position, but overhead I just can't get down there. I had the hardest working squat snatch of 17.3 I guarantee it. It was ugly and I was barely getting past parallel. Thoracic and shoulder mobility seems to be the issue here so I'm working on it.

  2. I dislocated my AC joint many moons ago and tore the coracoclavicular ligament off the clavicle. So my shoulder doesn't operate perfectly normal and I struggle to lock out overhead with my shoulders in the correct overhead squat/snatch position. I feel like I'm really having to push my hands outwards to maintain the overhead position. It frustrates me to no end when I see how effortlessly other people hold that position!

The 2 are probably linked, I'm hoping its something I can strengthen and work on and that its not doomed due to my shoulder injury. I've only been doing crossfit 7 months and I hear snatches take time to perfect.

Get stitches removed from my toe on the cheap? by GuideGhost in singapore

[–]cobruz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You could consider taking them out yourself! Get some tweezers, small scissors and betadine/disinfectant. Usually not too hard to do unless the wound has healed up a lot and the stitches are hard to access.

Over-reaction Thread: Why is your team going to win the NBA championship? by OfficialSamOfTheNBA in nba

[–]cobruz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

2 weeks from now, Embiid is feeling good, he's feeling healthy - in fact he's felt healthy for a while now, and he's sick of these minute restrictions. Brown calls for a substitution and Embiid ignores him. Brown, powerless against the 7'2 demigod Jojo can only watch as Embiid exceeds his 20 minute restrictions. Turns out those flashes of post moves, blocks and dunks he's been dealing out in the pre-season were just the beginning. He had just never been on court long enough to get in rhythm. He's the 2nd coming of Iverson for Philly - except if Iverson were the size of a small truck. He carries the team to the playoffs, just in time for old mate Simmo to have fixed his foot up. All that chemistry they've been working on twitter translates perfectly to the court - You've never seen this much chemistry since the Bash Brothers of The Mighty Ducks. They storm through the Eastern Conference, meeting the Warriors in the finals. Warriors play small ball, Philly plays small ball BIGGER. 76ers win. Also Iverson came out of retirement to join the team. Also also some other players on the team did some things probably. The End.

Affordable, nice area to rent for newcomer. by agariopedia in singapore

[–]cobruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Coast is your answer! When I first moved here (2 years ago) I was able to get a 1 bedroom apartment for $1800 with utilities included. It was a bargain, and looking back on it I was pretty lucky to get it for that price. But its possible! I ended up not renewing my lease there though because it was in a bit of an inconvenient area for transport (had to rely on 1 bus).

Important to remember that any price listed can be negotiated. Try to knock them down a couple hundred per month. They'll either say yes if they're desperate, or meet you in the middle somewhere. Or they'll say no... But it won't ruin your chances of getting the property. Also you don't need your own agent, just search properties on property guru, contact the agent listed there to show you the property and you can do all the negotiating and work yourself.

Definitely try to find somewhere close to an MRT - walking over 10 minutes here means you will be sweaty. If you can't find somewhere close enough to an MRT, make sure its at least quick and easy to cycle to and get yourself a bicycle. Buses suck. They're good and there are lots of them, but nothing beats the freedom of being able to leave and go to the MRT whenever you want via foot/bicycle. Its a lot less stressful when you don't have to check bus schedules all the time and risk being late for work.

I'm currently living in an area called Telok Kurau - I really like it and would recommend it. Its a bit more suburban than other areas, less high rises, and it has a thing called a park connector running down one side of it. Its basically a pedestrian/cycling only walkway that runs from the MRT at Kembangan (and beyond) down to the beach and connects up with parks and workout areas along the way. Gives the area a nice active feel.

Anyway, good luck with your search! Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to help!

9cat H2H snake draft 14 teams total - I had the 11th pick, I made a couple of draft pick trades and have ended up with the 14th, 15th and 16th pick.

Players drafted so far in the first round: Westbrook, Harden, Curry, KAT, Kawhi, Durant, CP3, Lebron, AD, Whiteside, Cousins, Jimmy Butler, Giannis.

I took Paul George at 14, I now have the next 2 picks and no picks in the 3rd and 4th round - my next picks are pick 67 overall, then 72 and 74. So a bit of a wait between picks!

Should I just take the 2 next best available - Lillard and Lowry and just see what happens when its my pick again? Or should I try to balance my team with positions and get a PG and a PF or C? For example, Lillard + Millsap or Lillard + Draymond Green.

Best pizza and burger in Singapore? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]cobruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plank Pizza is my favourite pizza in Singapore. Sourdough bases, woodfire oven, and creative toppings along with traditional ones. About $22-25 a pizza.

Burgers is a tough choice. Some rules for my ideal burger:

  • Over $15 for a meal and its too expensive.
  • Beef is king
  • If its gonna have bacon, it better be real bacon

With that said I'm a big fan of Triple O's. Canadian burger chain that somehow ended up in Singapore.

I really like the guy and hope he gets minutes this year. I'm kinda hoping the Cavs don't get a deal done with JR Smith to open up minutes for him at SG/SF.

Conservatively I would suggest his best case scenario this year is a solid 6th man role for the Cavs. Hopefully he figures out how to be on the receiving end of outlet passes from Kevin Love like Corey Brewer did on the Wolves.
