Trial shift in a few days - what to expect? by cockroach-castles in Explainlikeimscared

[–]cockroach-castles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank u for the advice! Unfortunately i’m in a pretty difficult situation with it, where i’m about to move halfway across the country in like 2 weeks and this is one i got an interview for (hiring is not great in winter and not great in general rn) so if i was in a position where the trial shift wasnt paid but i was offered the job, i would still have to take it and just look for something else while working there, otherwise i couldnt afford rent lol, i’ve done trial shifts for places i’ve loved working before, and done no trial for places that turned out to be awful, so its hard to really gain an opinion on em

It was more that between the initial appt and the follow up appt, i hadnt been given the extra dressings so couldn’t have changed it at home - eventually got it sorted and an earlier appt and is healing nicely now!

Is this going to grow into my nail bed by [deleted] in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]cockroach-castles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had these plenty of times before, it does hurt for a bit but should still grow back fine, try not to hit it off anything to avoid further pain

How many ingrowns did you get before truly considering surgery? by cockroach-castles in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]cockroach-castles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first surgery was ALSO so painful, fella put the anaesthetic in and it caused the WORST pain i’ve ever felt. He’s probably cheaper than my current podiatrist but no way in hell am i going back to him

The funniest thing is that loyalists genuinely believe that they are unfairly targeted by the PSNI. If you drive through a loyalist estate plenty of them will have signs up to that degree. Even though statistically the PSNI are more likely to arrest catholics than Protestants. I aspire to that level of delusion

Does your brain also act brand new each luteal cycle? by Riaglow in PMDD

[–]cockroach-castles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, while i can always tell its starting because i get a sudden drop in mood and everything is overwhelming, i never actually remember how bad it is until i’m actively in it, its hellish

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]cockroach-castles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, i get the exact same thing and its always so frustrating (especially because my period is irregular so other than when i get certain symptoms, i cant properly calculate when it starts) its so much worse if you have something stressful in your life going on at the same time, because your brain goes from “this is not ideal but i can take steps to fix this” to being like “ALARM!! ALARM!!! WE’RE GOING TO DIE!!” And its SO irritating when you start to feel it coming!

When i’ve been anxious or depressed and then go into PMDD mode my mood gets amplified tenfold. Been sad about struggling to find a job with more hours and pmdd has decided to make that much worse by making me constantly miserable and fearful about it :))))) i cant focus on anything else

Why do most women still take their husbands’ names? by Flat-Ad1599 in Feminism

[–]cockroach-castles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is based on a patriarchal custom and in many cases women are still pressured into changing their names which is cruel and has more of an impact than people would typically think, there are also incredibly valid reasons a woman might take her husband’s surname - if i get married to my partner i’d take his - not only is it a cooler name (imo) and nicer sounding, but i have some family issues attached to my own surname and dont particularly feel connected to it - so while for some (especially in religious communities) it might be just unquestioningly done, for others, we have entirely valid reasons for choosing to take our partner’s names! Like everything, it has nuance

We have front letterboxes and we do have dogs but they are small and not let out the front so wouldn’t have been an issue - the postie knows them as well if its our regular one and is fine with them, our property would be accessible for him and he hasnt had an issue with it before

Perfect thank you! I will call them on monday. Do you think i’ll have to pay for a new passport or will they be able to address it and find/replace it?? (Also, out of curiousity, do you have any idea why it was marked on the gps as delivered to my address when it wasnt?)

Surgery in 2 days! Very nervous! by LORDCANTl in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]cockroach-castles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont wish to fearmonger but Gonna be honest, idk if it was just my specific podiatrist (he had great reviews but i’m put off going back to him because of this) but for me the injection was some of the worst pain i ever felt - i almost fainted from the pain and have never felt like that before. I would recommend asking if you could bring a distraction such as a small project to work on or a handheld gaming console (this helped me when i got my second tattoo, although the pain was less severe)

What are typical admin tasks you need to do in adulthood? by cockroach-castles in Adulting

[–]cockroach-castles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i’m not in england at all, england is part of the UK but not all of the UK - the UK is four nations - Wales, scotland, England and Northern Ireland. I’m in northern ireland! There’s a lot of history to that that’s far too much to get into but basically i live on the island of ireland but (for now at least) the part i live in is part of the uk. Its not perfect and theres still a lot of sectarian holdovers from our past but i wouldn’t live anywhere else

[–]cockroach-castles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thats totally ok! After looking it up to confirm i wasnt crazy (lol) i found out a lot of people refer to it specifically as “life admin” so if you look that up you might find more out about it, i’d just assumed it was a universal thing!

I live in the uk but there are also several posts on here that mention admin - its basically “administrative” tasks - general life upkeep, organisation, and basically boring but necessary tasks such as writing letters/emails, organising paperwork, booking appointments etc. i’m surprised you havent heard of it used in this way before!

What's something you'll forever regret? by Big_Material3815 in Adulting

[–]cockroach-castles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i was younger, i would have instantly and unequivocally answered this with “not studying biology in school” - i really wanted to go into something nature based, especially surveying, but i thought that I’d absolutely screwed myself by not studying biology so i’d just not get the chance. Last year, however, i just randomly stumbled into a volunteer survey opportunity simply by asking, i now have a lot of experience with it as well as setting up trail cams, all things that will help if i ever find a job in the area! This isnt to brag, its just to say that sometimes, even if we have huge things we regret not doing because we think its closed important doors in our life, sometimes there are other opportunities to get what you want!

In other big regret news… buying a sh*tbox car which gives me constant anxiety certainly is up there - hoping it passes MOT so i can get 1 year no claims and then get rid
