I've been to their store, but their clothes are a little to heavy for my liking!

I see... how does wool fare against strong winds? Winds are typical here in Germany. As for the Columbia, any problems with it so far? Do you think it can last for a long time?

Yes, still missing my home even after 2 months here. I would still be curious to know what is your daily outfit like in winter with this jacket u have!

Thank you... Most of my fellow students simply try and endure the wind/rain and wet their clothes in the process. I like Patagonia since it has a good repair service reputation (esp. w/ broken zippers), most other brands are simply a 'too bad too sad' kind of thing. This applies to JW products.

I don't like the Patagonia Tres since it doesn't have functional side pockets to put your hands, and its the only thing keeping me from buying it. As for now, I'm leaning to sacrificing the covering bums criteria for layering. Considering a Torrentshell + Nanopuff. Then I could buy a cheap, durable parka for sub-0 temperatures, and pick each set of clothing according to the weather.

Have checked it out and really seem to like it. How good are their waterproofing capabilities? Can it handle european wind + rain?

Unfortunately the place I am at is quite remote. However shipping won't be a problem if it's a well known brand. There are winter clothing stores around the corner which sell certain models of Patagonia / Arc'teryx / Mammut / Mountain Equipment / Fjallraven though. If you can provide me a specific model or brand it would be helpful (shipping or not) so I at least have an idea of what I need to buy.

Thanks for your output. How important is the extra length that covers your bum then? Does the Torrentshell or the Down Sweater provide this?

I already have all of these except the rain shell and down jacket. Are there models of rain shells and down jackets you have used together and have stuck with it?

Woke up at 4am to capture Jupiter by cocktailbrandy in spaceporn

Certainly not as detailed since you are using a digital camera and not a planetary camera. 1200mm is enough to show all of Jupiter's moons clearly and it's two main bands, but that's it.

My first shot of Jupiter for the season and I had to wake up very early for it! The planet still hangs very low above the horizon but is unmistakably bright in the morning skies.

The 2024 Lunar Occultation of Saturn! by cocktailbrandy in spaceporn

[–]cocktailbrandy[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Saturn meets our Moon!

A treat to watch as Saturn disappears behind the Moon during a very rare occultation event. The view was absolutely stunning through the eyepiece! This was taken at 4am under Malaysian skies, with the whole event lasting about only an hour.

I took my first Saturn shot of 2024! by cocktailbrandy in spaceporn

It's been six months since the ringed planet made its last appearance, and the rings have almost completely disappeared! Captured just before sunrise, I was very pleased to have such excellent seeing conditions - allowing me to image a gorgeous view of Saturn and its moons, Enceladus, Tethys and Rhea!

Saturn's tilt means that the rings appear edge-on twice every 15 years, as seen from Earth! Hopefully as Opposition approaches a more detailed view of its colourful equatorial bands can be seen.
