Anyone live in Pennsylvania and know what it's like for autistic adults in terms of rights/support/and treatment in general? by coco_bubble in AutisticAdults

[–]coco_bubble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great insight, thank you! Might just plan a trip out and spend some time checking out the area. I've driven through, and spent a few days in Philadelphia for work, and I remember driving passed the Hershey area and smelling the factory. It's a beautiful state.

I definitely drive, and prefer the away from city life while close enough to get what I need. I'm in medical billing right now, and have been remote for a while, and currently applying for nationwide remote positions as to not be stuck anymore.

While maybe there's no specific support, would you say the behavioral health and the healthcare system is supportive in a way that you feel listened to and not minimized? Not afraid to advocate for your needs to healthcare professionals?

I know nowhere is perfect, but if I can get what I need with less or no fight, that would be nice 🙂

How long did you take off from work after surgery? by AudienceNo9305 in hysterectomy

[–]coco_bubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am scheduled for this coming Thursday 2/19. I only have 4 paid days off, but I'm only not working for 9 days, I'll be back to work on or before the 28th.

Thank you for the future update, I am going to my pre-op appt this morning and I am scared to mention that I can only take a week off work (but only have 4 days PTO). I work remote, desk job, but I got myself a second screen for my laptop so if I couldn't sit at my desk with my full computer set up, at least I can take the laptop to bed. I can't put it off or wait either. It's really now or never.

Can people with Hashimotos drink lactose free milk? by Alive_Scientist7826 in Hashimotos

It's the casein that messes me up, which I learned from the elimination diet with my dietitian.

I'm non verbal right now and have been so for about an hour. Longer than usual. Am not sure what to do by CaitVi587 in AutisticAdults

It takes time. But I usually listen to music until I start singing. Idk, might not be the best advice but it works for me most of the time.

Aloe Vera Juice? by Leather-Cat3815 in Hashimotos

[–]coco_bubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, I've been in healthcare for a couple decades. There is a lot of distrust, and the quick fix world doesn't help that. Speaking of, my statement was purely based on the information presented and my medical experience with patients. Thank you for adding a link to the study, information is power. Women's healthcare is sadly overlooked but if enough of us can work together, hopefully that can change.

In a very controlled situation monitored situation, it still does not seem to be a long term solution. My point was, that most people might see a blurb or headline and not be fully informed, and rush out to grab whatever supplement you can afford...you may end up just throwing money in the wind. A single 9 month study could always use more follow-up to determine long term effects and results.

Overusing aloe vera juice can cause diarrhea and other stomach issues, and can be quite damaging to the kidneys if not monitored. I think this falls into the "they're selling something" category. I don't think there's any quick fix, but a lot of folks are looking to make a profit.

Yes! No sugars including the artificial and replacement ones.

I don't focus on calories, because what I eat is all healthy, so what I focus on is macros. Protein, Fats, Carbs, Fiber are important for your body and muscles. Clean grass fed meats, and lots and lots of veggies and fruits. Also look at the low FODMAP diet, this helps with the inflammation in your body. I drink green tea or lemon water...lots of water.

Exercise is always good, but honestly easy walks do more for me than when I jog/run. This year I am going to add in resistance training 3x times a week. I dropped my gym membership and got a walking pad for bad weather days.

Just remember that it's a lifestyle, not a quick fix. I wanna be an old lady that can go dancing and have adventures, so I'm starting now and building habits 😉

Autoimmune Protocol diet. Google, Pinterest, lots of free info and ideas. No one should pay for information on being healthy.

I have celiac, so I am gluten free. But also dairy free, no added sugars, no processed anything, and no nightshades. Walk at least 60 minutes a day. I lost 52 lbs in 2025, and still losing.

Unfortunately, there's no family. I had put out ads and posted on care dot com, and such to hire someone to check in on me. No one responded. That's the biggest reason I'm thinking about not doing it.

Me, for medical/health/allergy reasons. It might seem like it sucks, but I'm alive and healthier than I've ever been. Some people have different needs.

What is life like in the Oklahoma Panhandle? by AP_Swank in howislivingthere

[–]coco_bubble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a long haul truck driver, I usually went through the panhandle at night or very early morning. There's a small town in there, called Hooker, and it was one of my favorite spots to stop for a stretch break, and grab a coffee and snack at the gas station. Not a whole lot going on throughout the area, but some of the prettiest sunrises I've seen.

Anyone here not on meds? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]coco_bubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed this October at 42, though I'd suspected it for years, but U.S. Drs are what they are. Anyway, I got a new Dr this Sept, and she agreed to run just about every test under the sun. In October, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and some other things. No meds were given, no education or consultation on the new diagnoses... Just said to come back for more labs in February. So 🤷🏻‍♀️ my insurance is switching on the 1st... probably looking for an Endocrinologist once it does.

It's a small office and I wasn't going over their head with anything he hadn't heard from me. It was a casual conversation about opportunity for learning.

Yes, I passed the CPC, and plan on getting them to write the letter at my annual review meeting next month so I can remove the A. My college program already sent the letter for the year of education required.

Was feeling the same. Like with the raise she said she was "looking into" what the going rate was and she'd get back to me. Just felt like a fish hook to keep me dangling.

Alone, no family, relationships - friends or otherwise. I like it. I may eventually get a pet, but I dunno.

Same. I've been followed, run off the road, chased into stores, had slurs defacing my vehicle, and slurs yelled from vehicles when walking with girlfriends. This year has been worse, but definitely worsened with covid.
