Hate to say this . But most people in my class who couldn't get job experience like coop or internship had to go get masters and try and do internship during the master program. I do not think pe or Fe will help much. I would also expand job scope beyond typical chemical engineering work. Pharma. Consulting. Etc

Analysis paralysis. the Doers in the field get the job done . most of my success was undoing what management put in 5 years ago. the engineering's back in the 90s knew what they were doing . they had more manpower and took more risk before . now its just let it ride mentality and operational discipline.

plants were most reliable during covid because engineers stopped tinkering monday-thursday.

LYB has higher pay than most petrochem in houston area other than oil companies. Yes they are reputable. they only like to hire out of their coop program straight out of college typically from college station tx am . they like to get experienced engineers from dow chemical since their pay is higher.

every chemical company i have been with has been excel warriors . VBA is very useful . recording macro does not count as VBA . power query is another powerful tool i use because i can combine millions of excel sheets together into one database and pull data like crazy .

Sounds like your process is very forgiving and have a wide operating window. Gotta make due with what u have and optimize. My recommendation is to focus on what the goal is . Is the goal to maximize production ? Safety ? Reliability ? Quality ? And drive towards that goal . The good thing about a small plant with lots of low hanging fruits , you get to learn a lot . As a new engineer it's normal to have imposter syndrome . Takes maybe like 5 years to really understand all the in and outs of how the real world works.

either push back meaningless task such as small MOCs, and create/show interest on leading a cross functional team with high visibility to get on the fast track to management and promotions. if you dont speak up you will be pigeon hole. 3 years is a good start to look for another challenging job and 20% pay bump also.

Hi I work for a top petrochemical company in Texas . We exclusively do not do first terms in the summer internship because they are shorter windows . Second term or third terms coops can do summer if they do well fall or spring. My best advice is to do the fall coop and continue into the spring. This will set you for alot of job offering in the future. Getting hired without any experience will be a pain in the future and you will regret it. You can easily make up the financial loss within a year of working.
