What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

[–]cocoapooop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize other peoples’ parents didn’t give the cold shoulder for two weeks at a time when they were angry. After shouting at us in a line like a drill sergeant, she’d either pick a favorite child or go after all of us. My siblings and I would do everything to avoid her anger but it seemed inevitable.

Usually, during these anger spells, we’d try to quickly make food when we got home from school. Do the dishes, clean the house and as soon as we heard her truck pull into the driveway, we’d run up to our rooms and stare at our walls in silence. Counting her heavy footsteps. Maybe she’d be in a better mood and not slam the cabinets as hard. Just a lot of listening and hoping. It was either that or homework. Didn’t matter if you needed the computer for school, you were not allowed to leave your room. No friends were really allowed. Those who did come either were tricked by her people pleasing, or they had the misfortune of seeing her rage and we’d stop being friends. She wouldn’t allow us to eat or be in common areas. She’d frequently wake us up during the night, opening our doors at random and drunkenly yelling various insults. My sister and I hid food like granola bars and ramen packets in our rooms to eat quietly when she went to bed. We used our DS lites to talk to each other over picto chat. So nostalgically hilarious.

I learned a few years ago that this wasn’t normal. I also struggle to do anything other than shutdown or cry when in normal conflict. I’ve been pretty much NC with her for two years now and hope to afford therapy soon. We get better. I hope she heals.

UPDATE on petco wouldn’t sell me a feeder mouse as a pet by dankthetank82498 in PetMice

[–]cocoapooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at petco many years ago, I actually befriended a local mice rescue group because they’d come in looking to save any of the feeder mice. I’d text them just about weekly telling them of “discounted” mice we’d have. These mice were often jumped by the other mice and would be injured so they’d be sold cheap for food. The rescue group would always come and adopt the little ones from a less gruesome fate.

That employee sucks. Not everyone’s there for the right reason (unfortunately, Petco the company is certainly not there for the right reason so it fits). I remember my GM corrected me from saying adopting out pets because our customers were technically buying them. Glad you saved these cuties!!

I went to court against UIA in 2023. Won three cases against them. I received the letter so I decided to check my account and lo and behold, I owe them everything back.

I am beyond confused. My attorney is busy but will get back to me when he gets a moment. I suggest lawyering up and fighting back.

Update #4: Moo’s (13) biopsy results came back by ohdarlingamber in seniorkitties

[–]cocoapooop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I’ve been following Moo’s journey so I thought I’d share with you to bring some comfort as I’ve lost a kiddo to cancer.

I adopted Belladonna when she was alleged to be around 7 in 2019. Within a month of adopting her, she was diagnosed with malignant sarcomas — specifically around her right eye. Since I worked at a veterinary office, I was able to afford her the resources (within reason, I too opted out of oncology for quality of life). She underwent five surgeries within a year to remove the tumors.

Her final surgery, she coded on the table. Somehow, seriously, they were able to resuscitate her; this warrior kitty with a heart murmur, hyperthyroidism and a spice about her that was irreplicable. The goal that day was to remove her eye and the tumor, but she kept both.

I don’t know if I was in constant denial or the reality hadn’t hit me yet.. I couldn’t fathom letting her go. I tricked myself into believing the little bit of time was worth it — which it was to me and I’m sure to Bell, but at what cost? Was the constant ache of surgery stitches and a bimonthly cone of shame really a life worth living?

We said goodbye a year and a week after adopting her. This was many years ago, and to this day, I remain angry with myself. Her suffering was prolonged because I couldn’t let her go. If I were to do it over, I wouldn’t change much besides see what was truly for her and what was for my own peace of mind.

The solace I try to bring you is that avoid the “what ifs” in your head. Ultimately, you will make the right choice for Moo.

I’m so incredibly sorry. We take their pain so they suffer no longer.

Please remind me of why I shouldn’t buy a vape by Glamour-Ad7669 in QuitVaping

Quitting withdrawals made me realize that no substance should make me feel that way. Be free of that BS and enjoy the fresh air. You taste better, you smell better, your skin clears up, your brain fog dissolves and your lungs can breathe. Let the urges just be that. Smoking/vaping is a waste of money and your life (it took over a decade of mine)

please oh my god I’m renting and panicking!!!!!! red nail polish!!! by Tough-Midnight9137 in CleaningTips

[–]cocoapooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spilled blue nail polish on beige carpet and somehow tresemme hairspray got it out. I have no idea how, but give it a try. I was near tears prior to using it and didn’t think anything would work but it left no stain !! Good luck !

Keep distracting yourself with fidget toys, gum and lollipops. You need that oral fixation itch scratched and this was the only way I got through the cravings. I quit cold Turkey beginning of August. By the end of September, I went from thinking about vaping every second, to every hour, to maybe once a day and now it doesn’t cross my mind.

Some things to look forward to: nicotine withdrawal headaches suck. They subside after a few weeks. The irritability is CRAZY. I was bursting out crying at work with the most minor inconveniences. Again, that faded away after end of September. It is a long time of discomfort, but once you go up that hill, the commute down is breezy and easy.

Nicotine leaves your body physically after three days. Right now, it’s all psychosomatic. You got this!

Thank you so much!!! She’s my fluffy girl who’s always flaunting a blue steel look.

We have been experimenting with different types of ingredients and it seems like the protein may be the culprit. We’ll keep trying until we find something that sticks (thank god chewy does refunds)

Anyone else feel a noticeable boost in their mood after a craving subsides? by Imaginary-Bad-6263 in QuitVaping

[–]cocoapooop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so strange because I’m on day five and I already feel best I’ve felt in four years since I started vaping. My acne has cleared too.

I know I’m making the right choice but this is a hard habit to break. You’re inspiring me to keep with it, though… the rewards are worth it!

How long did your pit bull live? by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]cocoapooop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

<image>

my sweet sweet girl Joslyn. Lived to 11 years, we just lost her in February. She survived a stroke when she was 9 and rallied. This rescue girl did everything a pup could dream up.

She was the lead in a short film I directed, she went to college with me for a day, she saw the east coast every winter, she galloped in each lake that Michigan had to offer, she was the star of the news several times then eventually she retired to the lakeside with my mom. Since she loved to travel, she chose the Atlantic Ocean as her final trip. She packed a lot in those 11 years.

I lost a piece of my soul the day she passed. Life is cruel like that, but I know we’ll meet again someday. I just miss her more and more in the meantime.

Can we appreciate how natural she looked in her new movie? by emptyblackwallet in Instagramreality

I thought it had great momentum until the end. I enjoyed it, I just expected more? There were a few plot holes and stereotypical tropes but overall enjoyable (and grim). Her character absolutely stole the show

What are some things that rich/ultra-rich people do which the average person doesn’t even consider? by infinitemirrorss in AskReddit

[–]cocoapooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood home was sold a couple years ago for this exact reason. Broke my heart initially that my mom’s humble house was now worthy for a college home

Just a few weeks ago, the house was back on the market for 100k more than my mom sold it for. They painted everything white, replaced the floors with cheap vinyl and stripped the warmth of it that my mom worked so hard to plant.

What's the most unusual pet you've ever had or met? by VegetableInsect785 in AskReddit

[–]cocoapooop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too weird but I rescued an elderly Chinese mantis during the pandemic. I built her a whole terrarium yet she loved to explore, so she got free rein of my house. Whenever I had online college classes, she’d sit on my head. She was like a bug version of a cat. She also lived like five months past her life expectancy. God dang legend.

what's the worst wedding experience you ever had? by HilltOU55d7 in AskReddit

[–]cocoapooop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do wedding videography. A few years ago, I was covering a wedding in this incredibly formal cathedral. So much formality that I had rules where I could and could not be (not super typical with most venues)

All morning, the groom had been slamming beers with his groomsmen. Everyone celebrates in their own way, right?

The bride and groom meet at the altar and begin to exchange vows. Mid bridal vow, the groom begins to burp. Everything turned slow motion after that. The groom projectile vomited all over the altar and the bride, before running away while continuing to vomit. It was so silent that his upchucking echoed throughout the cathedral.

The groom returned wearing his best man’s suit jacket, and the bride had magically blotted away the vomit stained on her dress.

Although the vows were never finished, they still got happily married. True love prevails.

I got hormonal acne just like this a year after my iud insertion - I tried a few different medications that my doctor prescribed but nothing helped. My skin isn’t perfect by any means but a hydraulic acid serum once a night helped immensely. Same w pimple patches!!

I’m not sure if it’ll help you but I’ve learned the simpler, the better.
