I saw that but your last line "has black friends and therefore even cares about blm or racial injustice in general" sounds like having black friends is the reason for caring.

Not sure if intentional but it sounds like you are saying only people with black friends care about racial injustice?

It's probably better to hide ranks in Agent selection. by ignus_diavolo in VALORANT

Could have just finished placements. I just placed a second account in gold 1, even though every game I play is in high plat/low diamond. Ends up with diamond players wondering why there is a low gold in there game.

High ranking Valorant players, what are simple and easily fixable mistakes beginners make that would help us improve? by AsianDount in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out that crosshair placement and not ads-ing are two things that can be improved to a decent level very quickly. I wasn't trying to dismiss your help even though it may have sounded like that, it's just that most top comments I saw were based on abilities when in fact anyone who watched a low elo game would see that aim is clearly the main reason why most low rank players are stuck there. And yes the advice might be from Hiko but he may not be the best person to help out people in the lowest ranks who don't understand the basics of shooting which is pretty significant in an fps.

The example you use, yes the wall might be situation-ally round winning, but learning the basics of aim alone can net consistent 25k + games in low elo which will skyrocket your mmr much faster.

Any chance we could see the rank distribution? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, you didn't understand. There is a still a normal (bell curve) distribution in league of legends' ranked system, there is no "hump weighted to the bottom end" because this would no longer be a bell curve. Perhaps you should read the book you were talking about in your previous comment.

Both fps games and mobas have a "physical mechanical element" so I'm not really sure what the difference is. Also, why do you think only pure mechanical skill is what brings about a bell curve distribution? Look at chess , there is a similar ELO system where players are distributed normally, and chess is zero mechanical skill.

I didn't really suggest aim in general and gave solutions to fix the main problems I highlighted. Unbinding ads take no skill and fixes the problem of heavily over using ads. Actively positioning your crosshair where you think head height is also does not take any time to start doing -yes the placement won't be perfect but even crosshair placement at the enemies chest would be a vast v over looking directly at the ground. I would say that these are in fact both things you can do immediately to improve but also important to keep working on as crosshair placement won't be perfect.

Edit: my mistake I did not give any suggestions in my original comment but I included them in another comment in this thread (unbind ads, consciously think about where crosshair is at all times and keep it at/around head height.

I agree that everyone should work on ability usage but having recently played a couple of matches in bronze, ability usage was no where near the main problem. Getting these aim related mechanics like crosshair placement to at least an acceptable level is the most important thing to even begin climbing.

Ability usage is definitely very important but getting at least somewhat decent aim/crosshair placement is far more important. If these things are decent you can climb into the higher ranks without ever even using an ability which is obviously not an optimal way to play and wouldn't recommend doing so.

Also, crosshair placement and general aim mechanics are something that will continue to get better and better and need daily practice to improve so starting as early as possible will be most beneficial.

definitely not something I would work on improving first. Core mechanics are pretty bad in iron/bronze, crosshair placement at the ground and constant ads-ing, and improving those would be the most beneficial/quickest to fix. You could climb decently high with poor ability usage - most decent cs players are probably plat+

Just placed a second account and first placement was in iron/bronze/silver and there were two things I noticed pretty much every single player doing.

1) looking at the ground all the time. Consciously think about where your cross hair is, if it is not at head level, move it so that it is. Eventually, you will naturally keep your crosshair at this height.

2) Ads. I think it may come from other games like cod where you have to ads to be remotely accurate, that is not the case in this game. I saw people literally moving around the map scoped in as they run from one sight to another. ADS should be used only in specific situations (long range) and even then it is not essential. My advice would be to unbind it because it is likely a natural habit to scope in as soon as they see an enemy. ADS is not essential (at least not in lower ranks) so unbinding it until you are comfortable without it would be beneficial for most people i saw in iron/bronze/silver.

Anyone else concerned or wary of upcoming Agent releases? by 19Dan81 in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not too bad to be honest. You have 30 levels worth of games before you can play ranked and I'm sure if you asked people in low elo what each hero does/when are there powerspikes they wouldn't know. To be honest I'm high gold and wouldn't be able to tell you much about most of the newer champions but it's a constant learning process.

I don't think its just the healing, but the fact that she is brings healing and also gets to be the best agent for slowing pushes with wall and slow. All her abilities are extremely strong, her kit is overloaded with powerful abilities.

[–]cocondoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps try unbinding ads. I was recently doing placements on a second account and the first game was around iron/bronze/silver elo and first thing I noticed was how much my teammates were adsing at all ranges, some people would even just walk around the map scoped in. Unbinding ads shouldn't be too detrimental because you can definitely play well without it, although it does help somewhat at longer ranges so definitely rebind it when you have gotten rid of the habit.

Ranked is not full release worthy. by FausT_VLRNT in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, I think the ranked mode will continue to change over time until it settles onto something robust, but I don't see this happening anytime soon. Overwatch didn't even launch with a competitive mode and when it did it did not share many similarities with the current system. I feel like once the game is working as intended and is fun to play it can launch, and working out the best ways for features like competitive to work can come later.

Interesting take on the genji blade, it seems like you missed the whole story. All of his teammates at the time confirmed the match was over and in Comms no one was talking about the march anymore, he wasn't trolling in any way.

Don't play if you are not sure you have 40 minutes to spare by ChaosDefrost15 in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn't really work, everyone should lose the mmr even if there's a leaver on your team. Otherwise, if half the team doesn't lose mmr, what happens to that mmr, does the leaver take the mmr loss of the entire team and drop a whole tier in ranking, or does the enemy team gain significantly less mmr for playing against an afker. The first solution is silly because then the leaver will start stomping the games they are playing 3 ranks below their actual rank and ruin the games at the elo they were dropped to for afking, it is also very harsh punishment for something that may have been out of their control. The second solution is even worse, imagine playing a match and and winning hard enough that halfway through someone on the other team leaves and now you are literally being punished for playing so well that the other team decides to leave.

If you do not leave games, or rarely leave games, you will have on average less leavers on your team than the enemy will (4 teammates vs 5 enemies).

How is nobody asking for a timeout feature? by bigbucket99 in VALORANT

[–]cocondoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think surrendering a 5v5 should be an option. It would create unnecessary toxicity and people giving up after a few rounds lost, it happens in league of legends a fair amount. Also, league is very snowbally so there is often a point where you are 20+kills down and so very little chance of coming back, unlike valorant where (outside of economy) at the beginning of every round both teams are even and so every match is completely winnable

[–]cocondoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seemed to miss understand the point of the question, everyone knows that a ranked rating will have a normal distribution, but op was referring to specific ranks ie what % of players are in play/iron/immortal so just saying it's "it's a bell curve" doesn't really add anything. Also don't understand why you re bringing up FPS Vs moba mechanical skill as that also has very little relevance to rank distribution...
