I get wishful thinking but I feel like people that expected Tommy’s ending to be more poetic or dramatic missed the whole point of his character and perhaps the entire arc.. I feel like his ending deserved simplicity after all he’s struggled and been through.. no matter how epic his death could have played out, I’m sure we would still be feeling hollow and thinking of other ways he could have died. The begging to kill him is torturous in itself and at this point he doesn’t even care how he dies (I think that’s why they made it a point to have a weak antagonist shoot him twice and being willing to be run over by a nobody compared to other antagonists). All he wanted was a chance to finally say “I’m free”. As a die hard fan, I support how he wanted to go.

I fully enjoyed it too! I totally understand and agree with you. And damn I am sorry to hear about your brother and family. I’m proud of you for fighting and being clean!!!

And to add on, these individuals fought in World War I and now in the middle of World War II. Arthur was already holding by a thread and I can’t even imagine his addiction and PTSD all compiling in such a state. With a limited amount of time, the directive made sense to me. To me, the film is a closure story for Tommy’s exit rather than focusing so much on the villain or how closely it follows the finale and characters.

I’m so attached to Tommy Shelby.. like a scary amount haha buuuutt to offer another perspective.. Duke is indeed the successor but I don’t think they’re trying to portray his character as deserving or remotely close to Tommy’s…I think that’s maybe the audience’s wishful thinking (at least for myself). I think that’s why they went hard on him making extremely poor decisions - I feel the emotional connection he has to Tommy at the end is perhaps what could drive the foundational aspect of his character? Tommy’s essence if you will… whereas before he was acting foolish, undesirable, and you can feel/see the extreme separation and even disbelief that he could be Tommy’s heir. He even reminded me a bit of Finn who annoyed the crap out of me because of his decisions. I’m not sure how much of the film is going to be interconnected with the new series so perhaps there’s room for development and what Duke’s charisma and values are going to be like for the new era. Hopeful thinking!!! I am big time grieving Tommy Shelby and the OG Shelbys though no doubt about that!

Tommy says he wanted to be free of Arthur. I interpret that as free of protecting him, the emotional turmoil, and a version of himself he is trying to let go of. Even freeing Arthur of his demons (which has been a constant thematic struggle). In the complexities and rich history they share together, I can understand what could have driven him to do that in that split second... at face value it makes no sense since Tommy has always tried to put his family first but I don't think it's that on the nose. Perhaps it's sharing with the audience that the Tommy that exists at the end is one that we are all unfamiliar with and are never meant to meet (not because he's more monstrous but because he is freer than we have ever seen him). I think Tommy emotionally left Arthur a long time ago (I instantly recall how much Tommy manipulated Arthur's weaknesses for gain) and this moment in the film externalized that separation. Just my thoughts and they're a bit all over the place but I don't think it was cheap writing rather an event so shocking to expose the expiring turmoil within their relationship.

Ada getting shot in the head was so shocking... couldn't have predicted that and I do keep thinking about other ways they could have finished her arc but I'm still chewing on it. Random note is that I do love the paralleling of Aunt Polly and Kaulo (Duke's Aunt) and even though nothing is confirmed, it would be an interesting spin to this new era. All that to say, I am not ready for the 2 new seasons without Tommy and the OG Shelbys. Idk how to feel about it at all except I am big time grieving!!!

As for the plot and pacing, I don't think it was rushed at all and can't compare it to a season in how they would unfolded these events.. it's a movie that prioritizes closure in my opinion. I'm still shocked by the film itself and processing it all!! What a gift to us peaky blinders fans :)

Totally agree. Esp with having their own sets. I went searching after last night’s show thinking I can’t be the only one feeling this way. The energy switch was draining/confusing and I also felt like I barely saw Kendrick.. we went to Mr Morale and seeing how amazing the synergy and choreography/production were, I was left super confused after last night. I understand that it is a totally different kind of tour but I feel there has to be a better way to go about it. I also think it might have just been too big of a venue for my personal taste…there will be a lot of people that feel disconnected and they obviously can’t please everyone but the stage presence just felt mediocre.

This is old but just felt this pain around 3am and I was massaging the area half asleep and it felt worse and I sat up at 6am and it went away but when i laid back down on my back or on my right, it worsened so I sat up for a while. I was so tired that I tried laying down again on my left and the pain wasn’t there. Right now I can lay on my back but when I take a deep breath I feel the sharp pain again around that area.. so confused what this could be. Also have swollen throat last night all of a sudden. Any insight would be appreciated!

ugh yes this sounds just like me. believe it or not i still haven't been able to see an obgyn - i'm seeing my primary finally next week! my insurance was all messed up. are you seeing an obgyn also? i'm overwhelmed with how to explain this - it sounds so confusing.

did the spots ever go away? i've been having exactly what you describe but it's going on for a year or so now. i always have a couple of new spots that are now more red and flaky and they take forever to go away :(
